Mason Matson

Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Matson is another player who had a pretty quiet first half, but he knocked down a huge 3 in the fourth quarter to extend Linn-Mar’s lead to 8 with just under 2 minutes to play. A quick, athletic guard who can score from all three levels, he did a nice job not forcing anything and letting the game come to him, and then he delivered in a big moment.

Another piece of a great 2025 class at Linn-Mar, Matson is the straw that stirs the drink for the Lions offensive attack. He’s a quick guard who puts constant pressure on teams with his ability to attack the rim off the dribble. He’s a really good, creative finisher around the rim, and he does a nice job keeping his eyes up and finding open teammates after he gets the defense to collapse. He averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 assists a game as a junior on 48.5% shooting with a 1.77 assist-to-turnover ratio.

A quick guard with a great first step, Matson was able to get to the rim against North Scott and finish creatively, from difficult angles, on multiple occasions. He’s a good ball-handler and skilled scorer and playmaker in the backcourt who can also be a solid on-ball defender. He had 14 points on 6-13 shooting (0-3 3P, 2-2 FT) in the loss to North Scott.
