A few weeks ago we updated the class of 2024 rankings in VA, and due to all of the content from the live periods we haven’t had a chance to break down the new rankings.

We’ll take a look at positional rankings, ranking the guards, wings and bigs.

Here’s a look at part one of the guards rankings, ranking 25-16 of the point guards and combo guards in the class of 2024.

25) [player_tooltip player_id="1489115" first="James" last="Delaney"] | 5’10” PG | Potomac Falls (#75 Overall)

Delanye is quickly becoming one of the more talented shot making guards in the NOVA area, as he can hit shots from all three levels and can play on or off the ball to get his shots. He moves well off the ball to come off screens or relocate for open looks from deep, he can hit contested pull-ups going either way and he knows how to create space and make the right play.

24) [player_tooltip player_id="1260004" first="Ty" last="Campbell"] | 5’9” CG | George Wythe (Wytheville) (#71 Overall)

Campbell is one of the top young guards in the SWVA area, and like many guards out there he isn’t the biggest but he’s super crafty and has a great feel for the game. He plays with pace and changes speeds well, he can run the pick-and-roll and makes great reads in the lane and he can make shots from deep and in the midrange when open.

23) [player_tooltip player_id="1260037" first="Jonavan" last="Coles"] | 5’11” PG | Chatham (#70 Overall)

Coles is another guard in a small market that has a lot of game and will impress coaches moving forward with his athleticism and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. At 5’11” he plays much bigger than he is as he can get downhill and play above the rim, he has a tight handle and can create space to make shots and he can guard the other team’s best ball handler too.

22) [player_tooltip player_id="1489104" first="Cam" last="Sampson"] | 6’1” CG | Clover Hill (#69 Overall)

Sampson is a new name in the rankings after having a good showing at a few AAU events this year with Circle Sports and he should be a breakout player in the Richmond area this year. The 6’1” combo has good size and is likely still growing, he can create and make shots from multiple levels, he’s quick off the bounce and he plays with a competitive chip as well.

21) [player_tooltip player_id="1259673" first="Nyshon" last="Claude"] | 6’1” CG | King’s Fork (#68 Overall)

Claude is a guy who could move up this list as he’s played behind a lot of veteran’s at King’s Fork over the past few years, and he has a lot of potential moving forward. He’s a strong guard who’s quicker than he looks, he can get downhill and use his body to finish or make plays for others when he gets in the paint and he’s a good rebounder for his position as well.

20) [player_tooltip player_id="1489102" first="Travis" last="Hamilton"] | 5’11” PG | Woodside (#65 Overall)

Hamilton is another new name in the rankings after showing this summer with Dreamchasers he’s one of the more underrated and unknown guards in the Peninsula area. He’s small but he has the innate ability to create space and make tough shots from different areas on the floor, he can get hot quickly and take over games and he shows good feel and IQ as well as a playmaker.

19) [player_tooltip player_id="1259672" first="EJ" last="Joyner"] | 5’9” PG | Peninsula Catholic (#64 Overall)

Joyner was highly touted as a young player and could still move up this list if he continues to develop and plays well on a talented PC team this year. While he isn’t the biggest guy he’s a highly skilled and cerebral guard who can fit passes in tight windows and makes good reads, he plays with good pace and changes speeds well and he has good footwork and ability to create space to score it in different ways.

18) [player_tooltip player_id="1259548" first="Brayden" last="Thorne"] | 6’1” PG | Catholic (#63 Overall)

Thorne is the consummate floor general who makes his team better and plays winning basketball which he showed in helping Catholic to a TCIS championship last year. He’s a strong guard who can get in the lane and doesn’t turn it over, he picks his spots and can get hot and score it from multiple levels and take over games and he does all the little things to help his team too.

17) [player_tooltip player_id="1489097" first="Rashaad" last="Williams"] | 6’0” PG | Norfolk Collegiate (#58 Overall)

Williams is one of the more underrated guards in the 757 and should have a breakout junior season on a NoCo team that has a lot of young talent. He’s a scoring point who can flat out boogie as he is slippery off the bounce and gets int he lane where he can finish over bigger defenders, he can knock down the pull-up and hit the three ball when he’s left open and he can get hot in the blink of an eye to take over a game.

16) [player_tooltip player_id="1489089" first="Tony" last="Goodman"] | 5’11” CG | Manor (#56 Overall)

Goodman is another young guard who has shown excellent scoring ability both in high school and in AAU and he can get it done against the best of the best. He’s a relentless player who will come at you time and time again and put pressure on the defense, he’s an excellent slasher who can get in the lane and get to the line or finish in the paint and he can make plays defensively on and off the ball too.
