Check out my analysis on some of the top prospects from a loaded Championship Sunday at the GASO Austin Round Rock! These guys all really turned heads through their unselfish team play as well as their individual skill.

David Punch 2024 6’7 Harker Heights High School (ASAK 16U Elite)

David has been absolutely dominant every time he stepped on the court this weekend, using his frame to routinely finish over defenders and through contact down low. His opponents often times resorted to simply hacking him to prevent him from getting to the rim and allowing him to flush a dunk on their head. He is a consistent free throw shooter, allowing him to punish defenders for lazy defense every time down. The most head turning aspect to his game is the ease in which he can get his shot up over defenders. He has a smooth jumper, paired with a high release point allowing him to confidently shoot over anyone on any spot on the floor. He is a natural shooter who you can tell has had very good coaching to fine tune his mechanics. I was also very impressed with his attention to detail as he attacked the glass on both ends of the court. He willingly boxed out his opponents and naturally seemed to seal off his opponents any time he wanted to. His overall dominance down low allowed the rest of his teammates to defend the perimeter with even more intensity, knowing that Punch was back their to clean it up. He is a natural rim protector and routinely ends possessions with strong defensive rebounds. I would like to see him work on developing his soft bunny hook with his weak shoulder, you can tell he is working on it already, but if he becomes to be even more consistent with his post moves and quick one dribble pull ups from the corner the sky is the limit for him!

Mack Goodlet 2024 6’2 Home School (ASAK 16U Elite)

Mack is a highly skilled combo guard who can punish the defense off the catch, or manipulate it with a live dribble to create an opportunity for a teammate. I was very impressed with how naturally he finished at the rim, even over taller and older defenders. Goodlet is an explosive leaper who is good at maintaining his strength in the air and fighting through contact. His ability to live in the paint made the defense sit back to cut off the drive allowing him to catch and shoot at will from the corners. He is a willing rebounder for his position, allowing him to go coast to coast when he wants, and he showed good fight and strength when switched onto bigger defenders down low. He is a dynamic player on the break, who is unselfish and loves creating opportunities by staying in his lane and then making a timely pass after drawing the last defender. His willingness to make the extra pass, as well as feed his big man was very impressive.

[player_tooltip player_id="1354702" first="Jason" last="Ward"] 2024 6’1 Round Rock High School (ASAK 16U Elite)

Jason is a true point guard who loves dissecting the defense on the fast break and controlling the tempo within the half court. I was very impressed with how well he led the team from the point guard spot, and how his unselfishness seemed to bleed through his teammates. He always made the extra pass to set up a teammate, and made plenty of picture perfect 3/4 court passes to his teammates streaking up the sideline. I loved watching him manipulate the defense through the pick and roll, when paired with his dominant big (David Punch) he made the right reads to find his big man down low or his shooters on the perimeter after drawing a third defender. I would like to see him work on his ability to shoot off the bounce from all three levels with more consistency.

Tristan Holden 2023 6’6 Taft High School (Elevate Elite SA)

Tristan is incredibly strong rebounder who has natural forward instincts and quick feet that look like he is capable of becoming a dynamic 4 or a small ball center at the next level. His ability to move his feet allowed him to defend guards and wings on the perimeter when switched onto them. He routinely cleared the glass and was good at keeping his head up and the ball high to make the right outlet pass. I was very impressed with how well he handled the ball on the fast break, throwing down a few thunderous dunks on the fast break. He is a natural finisher who knows there are few kids who can contest him down low. He showed an ability to consistently stretch the floor from his ability to knock down shots off the catch from the corners and the wings. I loved watching him screen his opponents and put his weight into them, freeing space for his teammate. He loves popping out to the perimeter for an open look at the three point line. I would like to see him work on opening up quicker as he rolls to the rim after the screen.

Jetsin Dotson 2024 6’0 East Central High School (Elevate Elite SA)

Jetsin is an active and aggressive guard who sees the floor as a true point guard in the way he sets up his teammates, and unselfishly runs the fast break. I was very impressed with his awareness with a live dribble, getting into the paint and making the right kick out passes to his shooters on the perimeter. He was very comfortable out of the pick and roll, working well with his big man. He is an explosive athlete who seems to elevate very naturally, allowing him to finish at a very high level even at his height. I was very impressed with his ability to go coast to coast and attack opponents at the rim. On the defensive end of the floor, he moves his feet very well, but is great at poking the ball free and running the other way with it. I loved watching him rip the ball from his opponents live dribble time and time again.
