The Warm Up: Event Standouts, Part 2

<p>The University of Saint Katherine/ Gamepoint facility played host to The Warm Up, a three-day showcase hosted by Gamepoint and the Swish Pro-Am.</p> <p>The event yielded some solid action, including one of the most competitive summer games I’ve seen in a while, El Camino’s thrilling win over Carlsbad to cap Saturday Action.</p> <p>I’ll have a couple of reports from the event, starting with the top prospects from the games I saw (I split time between The Warm Up and the second session of SDSU Team Camp).</p> <h3>TJ Duckett, 6-2 2024 G, Carlsbad</h3> <p>Duckett often gets overshadowed by his teammate Hall, but he’s steadily showing that he is a quality prospect in his own right. A crafty scorer who can fill it up from three levels, Duckett put on some highlight scoring drives that showcased elite footwork. Defensively, he has a long, wiry frame and is an excellent on-ball and helpside defender on the perimeter. I love how hard he plays on both ends. </p> <h3>Luke Ball, 6-2 2023 G, Bishop’s </h3> <p>Ball’s Knights were shorthanded and outmanned this weekend, but Ball stood out with his steady handle, shooting from three and intangibles. He’s a sturdily built point guard who makes up for his lack of elite burst with good change of pace, using his body to keep defenders on his hip and court vision. He’s a prospect that D3 schools should have on their radar. </p> <h3>[player_tooltip player_id="994934" first="Miles" last="Harris"], 6-0 2023 G, San Diego</h3> <p>Harris is a spark plug on defense whose speed in the open court and his unselfishness in the halfcourt keyed San Diego’s win over Bishop’s. Harris more of than not drives to kick to shooters, and does a good job finding shooters off of the help defense. </p> <h3>Isaiah Pomaire, 6-4 2024 W, El Camino</h3> <p>One of the biggest stock raisers this weekend was Pomaire, who has excellent physical tools (long, rangy prospect) and is steadily improving his ball skills. He has potential to evolve into a "three and D" wing, with his improved shooting from the perimeter and his ability to guard multiple positions on the floor at the high school level. </p> <h3>[player_tooltip player_id="1437035" first="Dalton" last="Norvell"], 6-1 2023 G, Ramona</h3> <p>Norvell, a crafty combo guard had one of the best individual games of the event, netting a 24-point, 12 assist triple double in a blowout of Mt. Carmel. In that game, Norvell’s ability to play in the paint off of two feet was critical, as it allowed him to show off his court vision (dropped some high-level passes when he drew helpside defense) and hit midrange jumpers with consistency. He also hit showed his ability to come off of ball screens and hit shots from the college three. </p>
