MC Classic: Names to Know

<p>There was a lot of good basketball at the Modesto Christian this past weekend. NorCal’s best players were on display, while others tried to make a name for themselves. It’s Summer where we have transfers, Freshman, and JV, and bench players trying to find their role and how to best contribute to their team. Here’s a group that fits that mode.</p> <p><em><strong>Tre Connor 6’1 2024 PG of Edison HS, Stockton, CA.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Conner</strong> </em>is a solid body prospect who can play either guard position. He did well up top running the team in half court sets. He sees the court, has speed, and quality handles to  go by defenders on and off the ball. He turned the corner a couple of times to attacks the rim. He made good long passes up the court. He has the speed and lateral movement to put good pressure on whoever he’s guarding. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.</p> <p><em><strong>Amare Suggs 6’3 2023 SG of Modesto Christian HS.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Suggs</strong> </em>had a good outing at this event. He shot the ball well from the 3pt line. He does a good job of handling the ball in the open court and in transition, he made solid passes, helped on the boards. He’s a big guard with long strides and good handles to get into the paint. He was solid on defensive side guarding out on the perimeter with good lateral movement. He had a couple of blocks.</p> <p><em><strong>Edric Dennis 6’7 2023 Wing/Forward of Vanden HS.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Dennis</strong> </em>is a long wing player that looks to put points on the board when he has the ball. He has a decent set of skills on the perimeter for a player his size. He has a quick release no hesitation, he knocked down a couple of catch 3’s in the corner, and wings. He likes to pull-up in transition, they go down when he’s in rhythm. </p> <p><em><strong>Justin Ard 6’5 2023 Forward of Folsom HS.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Ard</strong> </em>is a hard playing prospect who takes it hard to the rim off the dribble, he did well to get there, using hard straight line attacks, a euro step, and good body control, he just has to complete the play. He has good size, and strength to get rebounds, and finish strong off two feet around the rim. He can hit the short corner, and free throw jumper.</p> <p><em><strong>Brit Burden 6’5 2024 Forward of Piedmont HS.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Burden</strong> </em>Has a good set of inside/out skills that helps him produce points in different ways. He has a good set of moves working along the baseline and in the corners. He popped out to hit corner catch 3’s, used his dribble for short corner jumpers, and to beat his man off the dribble using a spin move to finishing strong. He has a solid lower base, plays wide and can handle physical play inside. He’s on the Wright’s watch List.</p> <p><em><strong>Judah Flores 6’7 2024 F/C of Modesto Christian.</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Flores</strong> </em>standing 6’7 and growing has a long wingspan and plenty of room to grow his game. He’ll have to get stronger, and be more physical if he wants to see more playing time. He moves okay, and has a decent set of skills to work with in the post area. He can hit the jumper in the paint, and work along the baseline. His length will effect some shots in the paint. We’ll keep an eye on him.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1255850" first="David" last="Young"] 6’4 2023 Wing/Forward of Folsom</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Young</strong> </em>shows a versatile set of skills. He was good working the post area, getting his share of rebounds, and defending bigger players in the post. He has long arms, good strength a bit undersized but held his own in the post, and defending on the perimeter as well. He has a good mid-range jump shot along the baseline, he handles, and passes well from anywhere on the court, not a lot of turnovers. He runs the court in transition. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
