So many great storylines and prospects ready to take leaps or solidify roles within their schools, let’s highlight some of the 2023 class who will be stepping into those “Senior Leadership” roles and names to watch perform throughout the month of June.
Gunnar Ball Gunnar Ball 6'3" | SF Perry-Lecompton | 2023 State KS , 6’3 G, Perry Lecompton: The do it all guard is back for Perry and will look to set the tone this June with a pretty new cast of characters around him in the lineup. Ball has all the intangibles to lead his squad to success and it starts in June. Ball is a terrific two way guard with toughness, attacking ability, open shot making, and rebounding prowess. Ball has seen a ton of success across the sports at Perry, and will look to continue that winning mentality with this hoops group.
Eli Oliver Eli Oliver 6'2" | SG Wabaunsee | 2023 State KS , 6’3 G, Wabaunsee: The long 3 pt specialist will continue to see his role expand with the departure of his brother and Brayden Meseke. Eli Oliver Eli Oliver 6'2" | SG Wabaunsee | 2023 State KS has the physical tools and has proven to be a prolific scorer from the perimeter especially off the catch from three, with a big June period continuing to expand his game off the bounce could see him poised for a big senior campaign. Is a microwave scorer and will be a Pre Season All League candidate.
Keller Hurla Keller Hurla 6'0" | CG St. Marys | 2023 State KS , 6’ G, St Mary’s: The electric scoring guard is the one of the last key remaining players from a magical two year run for the Bears who reload this next season with some talented younger pieces to go around Hurla. Unlimited range and fearless from 3, Keller is a prolific scorer of the basketball with a refined float game and crafty finishing package over secondary defenders that he honed in during the spring.
Landon Kauffman, 6’ PG, Moundridge: A well rounded point guard with playmaking skills, 3 point shot making ability, and smart decision making in both the half court and transition games. During the spring session with his club, found ways to impact the game without having to fill up the stat sheet by getting guys great opportunities, creating steals, rebounding it, and pushing the tempo in transition. Kauffman returns to help lead the back court for a really good Moundridge group.
Jackson Biggs Jackson Biggs 6'5" | SF Lyndon | 2023 State KS , 6’5 W/F, Lyndon: One of the staples for last year’s really good Lyndon team is back and with what should be an even more expanded impact on the program. Biggs had a very productive spring session on the grassroots scene being able to battle against some top tier wings and forwards which will bode well for him this June/HS season. Bigg’s ability to talk on the floor, be a positive teammate, and ability to verbalize what he sees on the floor will help new pieces to the Lyndon puzzle get adjusted during this month. Biggs scoring ability in the post over either shoulder, passing ability, and more consistent 3 ball off the catch will also keep him a healthy offensive threat to watch.
Omar Alsmadi, 6’9 C, Andover Central: One of the most intriguing forward/center prospects I will have my eyes on this June. Andover Central had a breakout season and has the pieces around the floor to be special this season. Alsmadi the long, athletic, and hard working center expanded his role and impat over longer stretches of games could be the last thing this group needs. Alsmadi is a terrific rim runner and rim protector, his growth in June could be massive.
Quentin Roberson, 5’11 PG, Blue Valley West: The knockdown three ball shooter for West showed this spring that he is ready to expand his role into a lethal primary point guard or versatile off ball guard. He has guarded at a high level on the ball this spring while also running more of the show at times and handling ball pressure. Starting to see the floor extremely well as a passer and his 3 point shot making is still the staple to his game as it has been.
Landon Braun, 6’6 F, Blue Valley Northwest: Finished the spring extremely well and looks to be ready to take the reigns over at Northwest. Was a pivotal piece in the front court to their run last year and will make up one of the best guard/big 2023 tandems in Kansas with Stubblefield. Braun is great over both shoulders, rim runs, rebounds it on both ends, has extended his comfort level away form the rim attacking or shooting, and is tough on defense.
Aiden Sullivan Aiden Sullivan 6'8" | PF Olathe Northwest | 2023 State KS , 6’8 F, Olathe Northwest (Pictured): The ultra competitive forward will play a massive role heading into June for a Olathe Northwest squad rolling with a new coaching staff and a lot of new young pieces adding to its core. Sullivan will be the stalwart in the front court and one of its leaders. Sullivan plays with tenacity on offense in the painted area with his power finishes, explosiveness off the ground, and finishing ability on either side of the rim. He can fly down the floor and out run other bigs and get easy buckets. He will be looking to set the tone in June.
