Since we last caught up with Chaminade Julienne guard P'hariz Watkins (2017), he's picked up an offer from Concordia (MI).
“That offer came in, actually, the Sunday morning after the day we lost to Dunbar,” Watkins said.
While Watkins has Division III programs that he's also considering, Concordia did grab his attention with the scholarship offer.
“I actually plan on taking a visit to Concordia really soon. Just to see the campus and see how life is there. But yeah, I'm very much considering Concordia as a place I'll be attending over the next four years,” Watkins said.
To go along with Concordia, the 6'1” guard has been welcomed into a pair of in-state Division III programs: Heidelberg and Marietta.
“I've had great conversations with Heidelberg. Heidelberg feels they can make me an All American and that I would very much play on their team next year.”
“Marietta has been trying to get me down for a visit the last week. Just to see the atmosphere there and see their guys playing every day,” Watkins said.
To go along with those two Division III options, Watkins has also been contacted recently by nearby Wittenberg. Additionally, the senior is considering Wheeling Jesuit (WV), Defiance, and the University of Northwestern Ohio.
To facilitate his decision-making process, Watkins has some visits lined up over the next few weeks.
“I'll be taking a visit to Defiance … I'll probably take another visit to Heidelberg and Marietta,” Watkins said.
Watkins said he will make his decision based on academics, personal fit/playing time, and program tradition.
Based on those parameters, PHO would speculate that Watkins will choose Heidelberg when it's all said and done.
Watkins said the decision will be announced in “two to three weeks, maybe a month.”
The senior play-maker just wrapped up a terrific career, and was reportedly named First Team All Greater Catholic League North.
Scouts will have the chance to catch Watkins again on March 27 at an All Star Game at Springboro High School.
