Jon Tran - F-5 - Plano East - 2024

Tran was an excellent complementary combo guard at 6’ who can make shots out to NCAA range along with playing excellent one on one defense. Tran’s quick motion allowed him to hit shots from all around the floor, typically while fading with the right hand. Given his shooting gravity, Tran did well leveraging this gravity to attack closeouts and create scoring opportunities for teammates. Tran is quite simply a dependable guard who fits well into any lineup.

[player_tooltip player_id="1451312" first="Eli" last="Looney"] - Tarrant Elite - Trinity Valley - 2023

The 6’3 shooting guard was a standout pullup shooter and rangy defender against perimeter opponents. Given his long arms, Looney was a pest on defense whose reach significantly impacted opponent decision making. His wingspan also aids him with his high release, up above his forehead, keeping most guards from doing anything outside a contest. Looney’s size allowed him to push defenders baseline more often than not, proving he is a legitimate defender one on one.

Coco Escheik - Top Achievers - Prestonwood Christian Academy - 2023

The 6’ lead guard was dependable both on and off the ball, working well with his teammates to deliver a 4-0 weekend. Escheik has a simple, fundamentally sound brand of hoops where he can make important decisions with less than four dribbles. Escheik was one of the top cutters last weekend, clearly understanding the offensive flow and opponents’ tendencies. Whether it creating a driving lane, creating a three point shot, or simply passing to the cutter, Escheik plays a winning brand of basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295689" first="Thairique" last="Bond"] - Oklahoma Swarm - Mustang - 2023

Bond was a bigger bodied guard who boasted excellent touch around the rim and out to the three point line. Standing at roughly 6’3, Bond was dependable scoring with the right hand out of difficult live dribble moves. He clearly has some big man skills in his game, where his pivot foot is top notch. Continuing to work on his guide hand should allow him to reach his potential as a three point marksman. Bond has potential to be complementary, versatile scoring wing at the NCAA level.

Holliday played older than his class, in part due to his IQ but also thanks to his elite jump shot mechanics. The 6’ shooting guard’s mechanics were one of the best in the gym, due to the high release and fluid singular motion. He was more than capable hitting threes off the catch or using a couple dribbles to set his shot. His fluidity at such a young age should illuminate his future as a secondary scorer based out on the perimeter.

Evan Gruis - ATX Pro Skills - Brentwood Christian - 2023

Gruis was lights out all weekend both off the catch or movement, largely thanks to his quick release. While standing at 6’, Gruis is a much more well rounded athlete than a pure shooter, where he displayed vertical pop multiple times throughout the tournament. The combo guard was noticeable pushing the pace, doing well grabbing a board and getting it to the rack.
