Breaking down the top individual standouts from Sunday’s action at the Prep Hoops Battle at the Lakes...

[player_tooltip player_id="1200545" first="Tristan" last="McRoberts"] - 2022 - SF - Wisconsin Playmakers

An unsigned senior that can help a small school next year, McRoberts is a versatile and exciting scorer. He’s a plus-length and smooth 6-foot-4 wing that can really score it off the bounce. McRoberts loves to work on the ball and get into the paint to set up his pull-up game. He’s very good at sizing his man up and working in isolation situations. The lefty can score it off-balance as well. McRoberts also has a good feel for the game. He can bring the ball up the floor and act as a primary decision maker if needed.

J.T. Rock - 2024 - C - South Dakota Attack

Looked like South Dakota Attack was going to get run out of the gym against Mass Rivals. Then Rock took over. The seven-foot center dropped 26 points in a comeback victory. An extremely unique prospect, you don’t see kids Rock’s size get up and down the floor and shoot 3’s the way he can. Rock can also size certain players up and shoot mid-range fall aways. At his size, you know yoy’re going to get rebounding, shot blocking, and points close to the rim. Rock needs to add some strength for the next level, but his skills are very advanced for his size and could allow him to be an impossible cover at the high major level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1412223" first="Sawyer" last="Schipper"] - 2024 - SG - Wisconsin Academy

Sunday morning games can be a little tricky. It’s hard to bring that energy, especially at 8 a.m. That’s not an issue for Schipper. Easy to appreciate how active he is defensively. Always in the right spot with his help and recover defense, hands are always up and active. Guy just doesn’t base his game around scoring. He can provide a spark on that end of the floor. Shipper is an adequate outside shooter. He’s a good athlete that can hit gaps and slash to the bucket. Draws some parallels athletically to his older brother, who’s a running back at Wisconsin. Each time I’ve watched Schipper, feels like he’s left it all on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1060148" first="Gus" last="Yalden"] - 2023 - PF - PLUTO Prospects

Yalden had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Mac Irvin Fire Sunday afternoon. The 6-foot-8 forward can just do things that 99 percent of players his size can’t, including bring the ball up the floor against pressure, change directions in traffic, and finish acrobatically off one foot. Not a guy that’s going to elevate and try and score above the rim. Yalden’s finesse and ability to avoid shot blockers is elite on a national level. Think his bread and butter in college is going to be post touches and pick n’ pop 3-pointers, but Yalden is also a guy that ties an offense together with the way he screens and facilitates. He’s an old school, fundamentally sound post prospect that puts his own flavor on his game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1139642" first="Vincent" last="Vandervest"] - 2023 - SF - Team 1848

Vandervest definitely didn’t back down in a high level matchup with D1 Minnesota. The Bay Port product began the game with an alley-oop dunk and then proceeded to make athletic plays around the rim. When the defense adjusted and took away his straight-line drives, Vandervest countered with a mid-range game. A 6-foot-4 wing with bounce, Vandervest plays with a noticeable edge. This is far from the first time he’s opened eyes against shoe circuit clubs. With his team up against some major size, Vandervest often drew a 6-foot-9 post prospect and was able to go to work quite efficiently.
