Another fun day of action at the Prep Hoops Live across Kansas City and Lawrence. We took in the action at the Lawrence Sports Pavilion and dive into what we saw in Prep Hoops Live: Scotty B’s Saturday Notebook!

Quad City Shockers 17U Shine in Win Over Arnold Elite to Open Day

This was a fun one to start the day off as Quad City Shockers from Illinois topped Arnold Elite out of Texas 73-70. The Shockers guards led the way. Rockridge shooting guard Jase Whiteman put himself on the radar of hoops fans with their run in the state tournament. The 6’1” guard has a clean looking shot from both mid-range and three as he scored 11 points. Sterling 6’0” combo guard JP Schilling netted 15 points hitting an array of jumpers, passing well, and playing scrappy. Off the bench Fulton 6’3” two guard Ethan Price caught our attention with how well he made shots with several triples en route to 14 points. Terrmell Akers stands at 6’6” and the Rock Island big man provided strength up front with his scoring, rebounding, and overall being a physical presence. Went for 14 points.

Arnold Elite had a backcourt duo of their own. Donavan Gomez started off fast and never looked back. Hit five triples on his way to 20 points. Shot it with a ton of confidence. Jalon McKelvey-Munoz stood at 6’1” with the ability to score from multiple levels himself as he netted 15 points.

IBA Illinois Stars 17U Captures Nice Win over New Mexico D1

Next up we caught the Illinois Stars Johnson’s victory 49-40 against New Mexico D1. Niles Notre Dame small forward Bryce Coleman is a strong bodied wing that was aggressive taking it right at the defense getting to the line and finishing in the paint. The talented prospect had 15 points. Marian Catholic 5’11” lead guard Tre Davis continued his strong spring with another nice outing. Nifty finisher at the cup that loves to get out in transition while also being able to knock down shots from deep finishing with 16 points.

For New Mexico D1 their top prospect in our eyes continues to be face up four Brian Kalb. Mobile post that can handle, rebound in his area, and has touch in the paint.

Another Day Another Dominant Performance by LA Broncos 2024 Post

It was hard to believe that Trey’Dez Green would top his performance from Friday. Well he did. We caught the first half of the LA Broncos 16U and their star 6’8” power forward was completely unstoppable. He scored 17 points in the first half including banging in three triples which we hadn’t seen him consistently do. The physical four took it coast to coast for dunks and was a force inside with his athleticism. High-major all the way!

Best Prospect from My Families Alma Mater Since….?

My mom and uncle attended Leyden back in the day. Uncle always asks me if they have anyone good. I might have someone for him now. Chicago Lockdown 2024 shooting guard Drelyn Jones has some intriguing tools. At 6’2” he has long arms and a frame to grow into. Got to the foul line and hit a three when we were watching. Chance to be a nice two way player. He had 11 points.

Full Package 17U Lets it Fly As They Roll Over EG10

In the first half of Full Package’s 68-60 win against EG10 they have seven players hit three pointers. This team is built around passing and shooting. That was on full display in this one. The dynamic wing duo of New Trier’s Jake Fiegen and Benet’s Nikola Abusara led the way once again. Fiegen is a sharp shooter that hit five threes in the win along with mixing in a couple crisp pull ups inside the arc. He had 19 points. Abusara is a versatile wing with athleticism and toughness. Handles it well taking it on the baseline several times for finishes along with getting out in transition. Finished with 16 points. Rolling Meadows’ point-center Mark Nikolich-Wilson is so much fun to watch with his creativity as a passer and how he pushes on the break at his size.

EG10 was as usual led by Ahmere Carson. Only scored 3 in the first half, but erupted for a monster second half to get his team back within striking distance as he hit an array of threes for 20 points.

Class of 2024 Big Men Battle as Iowa Barnstormers Too Much for Basketball Paradise

It was a fun matchup between Basketball Paradise big man Jason Jakstys and Iowa Barnstormers big man Asher Wade. Each had their moments, but in the end it was the Barnstormers that had too much as they scored the win 59-51. Wade is a thicker bodied five and that played well in this matchup. He rim ran, finished around the hoop, and hit the glass. Scored 12 points and was a physical post defender. Also for the Barnstormers their star Caden Wilkins had his moments also scoring 12 points including an array of jumpers.

Jakstys showed a lot of his intriguing qualities early on swatting shots and using his mobility on the defensive end. Uses his long arms to rebound well. Struggled to score in this one managing just 4 points. We will catch him again on Sunday. Bryce Saleek had a nice outing for them. The rangy two guard made three triples on his way to 12 points.

Ball4Lyfe Perimeter Trio Lead Way in 17U Win over Minnesota Fury

The Florida trio from Ball4Lyfe were really good in their 77-58 victory over Minnesota Fury. Have to start out with 6’5” 2023 small forward Blake Wilson. Great frame and athleticism. The skill met up with the physical tools in this one as he caught fire from deep while also impacting the game defensively with his versatility to defend multiple spots. Kyle McNeal is a combo guard that was straight money with his pull up game from both mid-range and three. Class of 2022 shooting guard Anquan Boldin Jr. is a high level athlete that has two way impact ability.

Iowa Barnstormers Edge Wisconsin Crusaders in Clash of 17U Heavyweights

This might have been my most anticipated game of the day. A ton of scholarship talent on the floor in this one including a plethora of D1 guys. The Iowa Barnstormers edged out the Wisconsin Crusaders behind another huge performance from star Dallas Bear. The 6’8” face up forward hit several threes and put it on the deck for scores on moves from the mid-range area. Silky smooth with his handle for his size. Finished with an easy 20 points. Toughness and consistency of Da’Shon Fisher shows through each game. The 6’1” two guard plays with so much energy and physicality willing his way to 17 points. Point guard Blaise Porter was putting defenders in spin cycles over and over again. Shifty lead guard that won off the dribble and lived at the rack.

Ethan Heck was throwing flames from distance for the Wisconsin Crusaders in this one. Opened the contest with three of them from beyond the arc finishing with 14 points from his wing spot. Really like the toughness and grit that Levi Birkholtz presents game in and game out. Posts up weaker wings for scores on the block and was relentless finishing on power drives as he had 15 points.

Pentagon Schoolers Comeback to Score Win vs Hoops4Health 17U

Hoops4Health led for most of this game before the Pentagon Schoolers stormed back to win in overtime. They were led by the play of guard Matthew Eng. The lead guard willed them at times in this game knocking in threes, scoring in the paint, and setting up his teammates with excellent passing. He had 23 points in the victory.

Niles Notre Dame combo guard Sonny Williams seems to be adjusting to his new team. The well built guard was aggressive looking for his points hitting several threes and pull ups while also using his handles to get in the paint for scores as he had 16 points in the loss. Marist shooting guard Xavier Sulaiman had a rock solid all around day as he shot it well and mixed in athletic takes at the cup for 15 points. Joliet West 2025 phenom Jeremiah Fears had 14 points scoring in a variety of ways.

Quick Hitters from Louisiana

Kamron Coleman from OWE is a 2023 6’7” thin post that has a lot of upside. Needs to add strength, but when he is in the paint good things seemed to happen. Whether it was dunks, put backs, or swatting shots on the other end.

In Indy we saw Team FIFA 2024 Kohen Rowbatham star for the 17U. On Saturday we saw him have a huge performance for their 16U squad. Thick bodied two guard is built like a running back had 21 points in a victory. Physical slasher that drew contact inside and got to the line.
