I caught Nichols for the first time in Indianapolis on the Prep Hoops Circuit and was impressed with his athleticism and ability to score the ball in the paint. However after watching him again in Columbus, it appears his current ranking is too low considering his talents. With some of the best highlights we saw all weekend in Columbus at our Prep Hoops Circuit event, Nichols was grabbing attention from media and college coaches. After already being on our radar, Nichols took advantage of our biggest Ohio tournament of the year with an eye opening performance. We’ve mentioned the MVL as a basketball conference on the rise with Maysville making a state championship and plenty of other individuals standing out on the grassroots circuit and that continues to be the case. It is arguably the toughest east/southeast district conference.

Nichols has had a big weekend. He just looks the part. Great strong build with broad shoulders. He is a great athlete who can and will dunk anything when he is close to the rim. He had a nice outback dunk that I don’t think he even jumped his highest on. He is a physical player. He is a monster in the paint. Great rim protector, rebounder, and finisher. He is a shutdown defensive forward. He simply does things on the court that no one else can.

I saw Nichols at a Prep Hoops Circuit event a couple weekends ago and knew he was an athletic freak, however, I didn’t know he was capable of some of the dunks he threw down this morning. Two putback slams and one crazy two-foot finish were some of the best highlights of the day at the Ohio State Tournament. I wrote about why Nichols made his debut in our rankings recently and his play on Saturday shows he needs to move up on our lists. Small college programs need to take notice of this athletic freak.

Our Prep Hoops Ohio scout Michael Roth had this to say about Nichols on Saturday evening “A very athletic forward, Nichols was flying above the rim for layups, dunks and tip ins. When he gets a clear path, Nichols is as explosive as anybody from the East district that I’ve seen. Combine his athleticism with productive interior scoring and the occasional set shot and Nichols should be a nice piece in a conference that usually has a few sleepers every year.” He was a big part of leading NOVA Village – Twinam 2025 to a perfect 4-0 record at the Havoc in the Heartland.
