The unsigned and uncommitted seniors on the first and second team in classes 1A through 3A were like a who’s who list of top performers in Louisiana anchored by [player_tooltip player_id="781838" first="Percy" last="Daniels"]. Classes 4A and 5A have some star power in them as well. On the opening of the national signing period, we will take a look at the first and second team members in the two highest classifications in Louisiana. The players on these lists are highly talented and should receive plenty of attention as the signing period rolls on.

[player_tooltip player_id="781849" first="Rayshun" last="McCullar"] (Huntington) - McCullar bounced back to the form that garnered him so much buzz during his underclassmen campaigns this season. His 1st team all-state nod was proof of that. He is definitely the second best point guard in the class and has the potential to help any team whether it is by facilitating the rock or scoring. The schools that had interest in him during the early years have had coaching changes since. He is a Division I talent and the maturing of his game says that. Where he lands, however, is a wait and see situation.

[player_tooltip player_id="781863" first="Jacob" last="Wilson"] (Liberty) - Wilson has probably had the most buzz since his all-state selection. He has had an abundance of mid-major offers and that may just be the beginning. Because of his ability to defend in the full court, shoot off the dribble, and play the point, Wilson can fit into a lot of systems now and contribute. I believe he will still receive a lot of offers before he comes to a final decision.

[player_tooltip player_id="937608" first="Dorian" last="Finister"] (Carver) - Finister may have earned a second team all-state nod but he has talent that can play anywhere from mid to high major. His ability to play the passing lanes has been his calling card. He has enough highlight footage on those alone to fill up a long reel. However, the way he improved his on-ball defense along with becoming a more complete guard offensively, he will definitely be a steal for whoever signs him on the Division I level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1270191" first="Leland" last="Smith"] (Edna Karr) - [player_tooltip player_id="1270191" first="Leland" last="Smith"] and his second team all-state nod is a testament to the work he put in from the summer to the end of this season. He is a guard who can score it from any level on the floor and at a very high clip if he gets hot enough. During the season, he flashed his passing ability as well basically stating that he can play on or off the ball. A guard with his capability and IQ should peak the interest of schools who are looking for a combo guard with potential.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051634" first="Titus" last="Thomas"] (Beau Chene) - Thomas was named district MVP and 2nd team all-state because he is as good as it gets at the guard position. He developed into a three level scorer who really likes to attack the rim. His favorite drive seems to be the baseline drive where he finishes at the rim. Thomas is also an excellent finisher in transition. A school looking for a combo guard who can finish at a high level should look in his direction.

[player_tooltip player_id="1127357" first="Zach" last="Fenn"] (St. Paul’s) - Fenn showed why he was an all-state player from game one until St. Paul’s final contest. He can rebound, shoot, and defend at a high level. His ability to play lead guard and make others better is a trait not seen in many guards these days. Guards who can play with or without the ball or highly-valued on the next level. Fenn is one who should definitely find a home.

Sterry Leonard (Ouachita) - Leonard was one of the surprises on a Ouachita team who made the 5A semifinals. Being named second team all-state is no fluke, however. Leonard has a strong upper body and can get to the rim through a lot of contact that stops other guards from finishing. He is very good at shooting the corner three as well. Mix his offense with his tough man-to-man defense and you have a guard that can make a difference on both sides of the ball.

There were not a lot of signings on day one of the national signing period. Look for more signings to come after many of the players in the transfer portal find a home. These seniors, and others, will be seniors that should be on the boards of colleges and universities in Louisiana as well as other states.
