Commonwealth Basketball Group kicked off the grassroots season with a one day showcase event in Williamsburg featuring teams from all over the state to allow teams to get their warm up in.

Here’s a look at part four of the standouts from the event.

[player_tooltip player_id="999646" first="Chris" last="Cyrus"] | 6’3” WF | Virginia Venom 2023

Cyrus is set to have a huge summer if he plays the way he did at the Grassroots Showcase, as the 6’3” wing has not only grown but he’s become much more athletic and he showed it with some big time highlight plays. He’s always been a guy who can shoot it from deep and he did that well, but now he’s able to put it on the deck and get to the rim, he plays above the rim in transition and defensively he uses his athleticism to make plays as well.

Chris Fields | 6’7” PF | VA Bulls 2023

The First Team All State Class 3 selection was a breakout player this season leading Petersburg to the state championship where they lost a heart breaker, and if you don’t know much about him yet you may want to pay attention to him this summer. The 6’7” forward is very versatile as he is a good athlete who can run the floor and play above the rim, he has an excellent midrange game and can work from the elbows where he can shoot and pass and has the ability to step out and make shots from deep too and he can impact the game across the board.

Kendrick Warren | 6’4” WF | ASSIST 2022

Warren is an available senior that some schools should look at, as he has a ton of upside with his size and athleticism on the wing. He has long arms and a good frame that’s strong and allows him to make plays on both ends of the floor, he can jump out of the gym and slashes well to the basket and he can knock down shots when he’s left open as well.

Ellis Wright | 6’3” WG | Wave Basketball 2024

Wright is a player to watch for in the 757 in the 2024 class, as he’s one of the top young shooters in the area and he has a nice looking frame as he continues to grow into his body. He has very long arms and can get deflections and rebounds, he has good form and a quick release from deep with good range and he shot the ball and scored it efficiently for his Wave group.

Sebastian Whitfield | 6’5” WF | Wave Basketball 2025

Whitfield is part of a very talented Wave 15U group, and he has the potential to be one of the top players in the freshman class in the 757. He already has a great frame and is a good athlete who can get up and down and defend, he can stick it from deep consistently off the catch and attacks closeouts and he scored the ball well from all three levels at the event.
