5A Tournament – Consolation Final Top Performers

<p>While most were focused on the championship game on Saturday afternoon, the morning session also featured a matchup between two of the top 5A teams. In the consolation final, Crater beat Ashland for the second time of the season, 50-45, capturing fourth place at the state tournament. Here’s a look at our top performers from Saturday morning:</p> <p><strong>Tate Broesder (2022 Crater)</strong></p> <p>Broesder continued to do tremendous damage from outside on Saturday, burying four threes on his way to a game-high 23 points. When the 6-foot-5 senior was hot, the Comets were incredibly difficult to stop this week. He possesses a technically sound, repeatable shot motion, and even his misses look good to start. Additionally, Broesder hauled in six boards and finished a number of plays inside as the Comets’ big-man in Saturday’s win, earning himself second-team all-tournament honors.</p> <p><strong>Logan Price (2022 Crater)</strong></p> <p>Price is undersized for a traditional power forward at 6-foot-3, but his presence was felt on Saturday nonetheless. The senior scored eight points to go alongside a team-high seven rebounds in the win. Using terrific strength and a high motor, he makes an impact on both ends of the floor. Price was primarily guarding <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1310064" first="Egan" last="Shields"] </strong>and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1229390" first="Hawthorn" last="Lapierre"], </strong>the Grizzlies’ two most prominent weapons, and did a terrific job considering his size disadvantage.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1310064" first="Egan" last="Shields"] (2023 Ashland)</strong></p> <p>Shields, a second-team all-tournament selection, was the Grizzlies’ most consistent player this week. Against the Comets’, the 6-foot-10 center continued his steady play with a 15 point outing. He shot 5-for-7 from the field, including a three-pointer, and collected a game-high nine rebounds. The junior was incredibly efficient on Saturday, as he poured in 4-of-5 free throws and only missed from beyond the arc. </p> <p><strong>Izzy Golden (2023)</strong></p> <p>Another standout junior for the Grizzlies, Golden was a necessary offensive weapon on Saturday. The 5-foot-10 guard did a little bit of everything, tallying 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the tight loss. Golden particularly stood out as both a shooter and a facilitator. He knocked down two threes and proved unselfish on the perimeter, consistently finding the extra pass on Saturday.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
