Colton, SD - Check out the Mustangs from Tri-Valley. They play in the DAK XII Conference and Region 3A. This leads the Mustangs to play a tough schedule. I saw today that Cory McDonald was named to the All-Conference Team in the Dak XII. Tri-Valley did not pick up as many wins as they would have liked this season. However, they still had wins against quality teams. Read below for stats, comments from coach Brandon Feterl, and the updated scores and schedule for the Mustangs.

Q & A with coach Brandon Feterl

PHD: What were some of the highlights of the season?

Coach Feterl: "Some of the highlights were watching the growth of the team throughout the season. We had a couple of big wins over good teams, Milbank and Elk Point Jefferson. I felt like we competed at a high level in regions against a really good Dell Rapids team so it was good to see that even in a loss."

PHD: Which players improved the most for you this season?

Coach Feterl: "I thought Cory McDonald improved the most from last year to this year. He went from our 8th man last year to our best player."

PHD: Who were your biggest "impact players" this season?

Coach Feterl: "Cory McDonald was our most consistent scorer and brought great energy defensively. I could trust him every night to guard the other team’s best player and make it a long night for him. Lance DeWitt did a great job of putting others in a position to score by averaging 4.5 assists per game. Connor Christensen was huge for us in the paint blocking shots and grabbing a bunch of rebounds every game. [player_tooltip player_id="1227968" first="Noah" last="Haynes"] showed flashes that he can be a really good impact player."

PHD: Who was your best shooter?

Coach Feterl: "While we struggled to shoot as a team from the perimeter, we did have some guys who shot it well from the mid-range. Cory McDonald was fantastic from the elbow area."

PHD: Who was your best practice player and why?

Coach Feterl: "I thought Braden Oyen was a very vocal practice and player and always came and competed day in and day out."

PHD: Who were some of your key bench players?

Coach Feterl: "All of our seniors that came off the bench made an impact in their own way, even if it wasn’t statistically. Trey Johnson also provided offense off the bench."

PHD: Can you make a few comments about the seniors that you are losing?

Coach Feterl: "We are going to miss these seniors a lot. They played heavy minutes this season and gave me everything they had so I’m incredibly proud of them. Lance DeWitt has started since he was a sophomore so he will be missed. Along with the other seniors mentioned there will be a lot of areas where we need others to step up next year."

PHD: Who are some of your top players that will be back next season?

Coach Feterl: "[player_tooltip player_id="1227968" first="Noah" last="Haynes"] will be returning, and we are hoping for big things from him his senior season. Braden Oyen started every game this year so we will look for him to continue to grow and be more comfortable at the varsity level next year. We have a couple of sophomores (Trey Johnson and Carter Sorenson) who will need to step up next year and be ready to go."
