In the first state championship game of the day, we had yet another instant classic. That phrase gets tossed around a lot but it’s hard to argue that Millwood’s 53-50 win over Community Christian wasn’t an instant classic. Freshman Chance Davis nailed a three-pointer in the corner to give the Falcons their 16th state championship in school history, tying Booker T Washington for most titles in Oklahoma history.

The Falcons needed the heroics from Davis after Community Christian rallied in the fourth quarter. The Royals actually outscored Millwood 19-8 in the fourth quarter. Community Christian’s Cade Bond would tie the game at 50 with a pair of free throws but their was 30 seconds left and the Falcons would hold for the last shot. Bond led all scorers with 20 points.
Millwood was led by freshman Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK , who finished with 19 points and was so electric on both sides of the floor. But part of the Community Christian rally in the fourth quarter was boosted by Nickens fouling out of the game. Speaking of electric, Community Christian junior Bai Jobe Bai Jobe 6'5" Community Christian | 2023 OK finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and at least 5 blocked shots. He had a moment in the fourth quarter where he flushed a two-hand slam and followed it up by rejecting a Millwood shot on the other end. The Royals would tie the game on their next possession with the Bond free throws.
Earlier this week, Millwood’s quarterfinal win gave them the most wins in state tournament history. They made some more history on Saturday afternoon with that 16th state championship, which has tied the Hornets for most in state history. Millwood was making their 23rd appearance in the title game while Community Christian was in their first ever title game after making their first ever state tourney appearance a year ago.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Chance Davis – 2025 Guard – Millwood
How could it not be? He wasn’t the leading scorer. He wasn’t even Millwood’s best freshman on the afternoon. But when it came down to the last shot, Davis got the ball in his hands and launched the game-winner. Davis finished with 10 points and was a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc but everyone who was in attendance on Saturday will always remember Davis burying a shot in the corner for a state championship.
