The NCHSAA State Playoffs are approaching the Final Four this weekend as the Eastern and Western Regionals headline the Saturday schedule. Here’s a preview of the NCHSAA 2A West Final.
North Surry (23-4) vs. JM Robinson (26-3) – 2 PM
No more No. 1 seed in the West as West Caldwell defeated No. 1 RS-Central before West Caldwell fell in the Region Semifinals to North Surry. Now, the West 2A ranks will see quite the battle as the Greyhounds square off against the Robinson Bulldogs, who haven’t lost a game since Jan. 27. Robinson comes in led by four double-figure scorers in 2022 Jaylan Jackson, and 2023s Daevin Hobbs Daevin Hobbs 6'6" | PF Robinson | 2023 State NC , Zi’Kei Wheeler and Jermaine Gray. They squeezed out a 49-45 victory after trailing by a point entering the fourth quarter in the semifinals. They’ll get all they can handle against a formidable backcourt duo in this one though Hobbs as their paint-protector helps a ton. They’ll look to apply their defensive pressure to North Surry on Saturday at Grimsley High.
The dynamic duo of James McCreary James McCreary 6'1" | SG North Surry | 2023 State NC and Jahreece Lynch Jahreece Lynch 6'2" | CG North Surry | 2023 State NC combined for 50 points as McCreary exploded for 31 points in the semifinals to boost the Greyhounds over West Caldwell. He’s an intriguing guard prospect that can get going in a hurry as is Lynch, who recently received an offer from Catawba College. He’s an athletic prospect that makes things happen with the ball in his hands but Lynch and McCreary aren’t the only two to keep eyes on. Kolby Watson, Cam Taylor and Jackson Smith are some other names to keep an eye on as well. Watson is dishing out 3.2 apg while posting 11.7 ppg. Smith has been a presence in the paint and on the glass.
