Continue ReadingThe regular season is just about to be complete and week 12 was a big one in terms of teams fighting for league titles. As usual, we got in the gym for a few games and watched more on tape. Here’s a look at the top seniors we saw this past week.
Payton Meyers Payton Meyers 6'6" | CG Canby | 2022 State OR (2022 Canby)
To say that Meyers has made the successful transition from 4A to 6A would be a true statement. The 6-foot-6 senior showed off his athleticism with a couple of dunks in transition against Lakeridge, but also knocked down some perimeter jumpers both catch-and-shoot and on the move. He would up with a game-high 22 points.
Alex Evans Alex Evans 6'3" | CG Canby | 2022 State OR (2022 Canby)
Evans is a unique player in that he has the build of a strong wing but has the skills of a point guard. He used his 6-foot-3 frame to create space in the lane or off the dribble and his natural passing instincts to find open teammates for scores. Evans was also effective on the glass and recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists.
Dallon Morgan Dallon Morgan 6'9" | PF Sprague | 2022 State OR (2022 Sprague)
Arguably the top big man in the Class of 2022, Morgan showed the ability to score both inside and out against Summit. The 6-foot-9 forward started off posting up strong and then looked to utilize his soft shooting stroke from beyond the arc. He shot it fairly well from three, ending up hitting five on the night in scoring a team-high 24 points.
Julian Mora Julian Mora 6'0" | PG Summit | 2022 State OR (2022 Summit)
Very few players in the state look to push the ball as much as Mora, who did so against Sprague but did it wisely. The 5-foot-10 point guard made good decision to pull up when things weren’t there and run the half-court set and keep the ball in motion. He was sharp with his own shot, knocking down a couple of threes, and ended up with 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Carson Cox Carson Cox 5'10" | CG Summit | 2022 State OR (2022 Summit)
Cox has a key role on the Summit squad – knock down open shots – and he did that extremely well against Sprague. The 5-foot-10 senior simply found spots against the zone where he could easily catch, face, and shoot – and at the end of the night he had knocked down three from distance. Cox didn’t just shoot the ball, he also did a good job taking care of the basketball and keeping the offense moving.
Zeke Viuhkola Zeke Viuhkola 6'1" | CG West Linn | 2022 State OR (2022 West Linn)
Viuhkola has largely been option #2 for the Lions this season but against Tigard on Saturday afternoon, he was numero uno. The 6-foot-2 guard did hit some jumpers but where he really did his damage was by attacking the hoop and finishing through contact. It was an all-around effort from Viuhkola and at the end of the day he tallied 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Peyton Durbin Peyton Durbin 6'4" | SF West Linn | 2022 State OR (2022 West Linn)
Every game there seems to be a different third guy that steps up for West Linn and on Saturday that man was Durbin. The 6-foot-6 senior did a great job moving without the basketball to find himself in places to catch the pass and put the biscuit in the basket. While he got a number of easy layups, he also showed off his shooting touch by hitting a couple of jumpers including a three. 15 points on the day.
