The updated 2022 class rankings in VA came out yesterday, and with that will come a lot of content in the next week or so!

Today, we take a look at the third part of our positional wings rankings, looking at the top five shooting guards and small forwards.

Check out the full rankings here, and stay tuned for more content and class rankings updates!

5) [player_tooltip player_id="1387023" first="Devin" last="Ree"] | 6’7” | Oak Hill Academy (#7 Overall)

The LSU commit who transferred to Oak Hill this season has been a big part in the Warriors being a top 10 team in the country, as he provides a versatile player who can play and guard multiple positions and impact the game in a number of different ways. At 6’7” he has a strong frame and is a good athlete who can get up and down and play above the rim, he can guard pretty much any position on the floor and he’s an efficient scorer from multiple levels. He does a lot of things that translate to next level and has had a big season for them so far.

4) [player_tooltip player_id="1173210" first="Judah" last="Mintz"] | 6’4” | Oak Hill Academy (#6 Overall)

Mintz has been at Oak Hill the past couple of seasons after coming from Gonzaga in the WCAC, and the former Pitt commit is one of the top available wings in the country at this point. The 6’4” two guard is a big time scorer who is efficient and can fill it up from multiple levels, he has good strength and athleticism as a finisher around the rim and through contact and he is a lock down defender who can guard the other team’s best player and makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. He has a host of schools that are vying for his attention, and recently took a visit to NC State this past weekend.

3) [player_tooltip player_id="815588" first="Alphonzo" last="Billups"] | 6’7” | Varina (#5 Overall)

“Fatts” as he’s known by teammates and coaches, has been the main reason that Varina has had a revitalization over the past three seasons and has them in position to compete for a Class 4 state championship this year. He’s one of the most versatile wings you’ll come across as he has a great skillset off the bounce where he can run the show and see over the defense and deliver excellent passes, he is a good athlete who rebounds and finishes above the rim consistently and he has improved as a scorer and a shooter as well. The nationally ranked Richmond product chose to stay home and will head to VCU next year.

2) [player_tooltip player_id="815579" first="Tyler" last="Nickel"] | 6’7” | East Rockingham (#3 Overall)

Nickel came in needing a big senior season to have a chance at breaking the VHSL scoring record which he was on pace to do before the coronavirus pandemic cost him half a season, but he’s done just that with multiple 40 plus games and even a 50 ball game. The 6’7” nationally ranked wing who has committed to UNC just simply has a knack for scoring the ball, and he has the drive and mindset to be a dominant scorer every time he’s one the floor. He’s an exceptional shooter from deep with good size and moves well off the ball, he can put it on the deck and get to spots in the midrange or get to the rim where he can finish through contact and above the rim and he can hit the glass and get extra chances too.

1) [player_tooltip player_id="1041394" first="Chris" last="Livingston"] | 6’6” | Oak Hill Academy (#1 Overall)

A consensus top 10 player in the country and a Kentucky commit, Livingston came to Oak Hill from Buchtel High School in Akron and has immediately brought a mix of versatility, scoring and toughness to this Warriors team that is in the top 10 nationally. He’s the type of player that was built to play this game as he has great upper body strength and good size on the wing, and his mix of athleticism, skillset and high motor along with that size is what makes him so tough to stop or game plan for. He can knock down shots from deep consistently both off the catch and off the bounce, he’s a load when he gets downhill and he’s able to find contact and finish through it with relative ease, he pursues the ball and is a good rebounder on both ends of the floor and he has a swagger and savvy about him while also not showboating or doing too much that shows he’s the best player on the floor.
