On Saturday February 5, Prep Hoops was at Venture Academy for the Super Saturday Showcase featuring teams from in and around the Stockton area, a part of NorCal. There were 6 games with some players we hadn’t seen before. Here’s a list of players who you might not know that played well at this event.

[player_tooltip player_id="1381185" first="Elias" last="Weathers"] 6’2 2023 SF of Cosumnes Oaks.

Weathers is an athletic player with plenty of bounce to his game. He might be what you call a run and jump type of player. He’s good at going after follow up rebounds, He plays strong off two feet inside. He’ll fill lanes in transition looking to throw one down. He can use one or two dribbles get to the basket. 16pts

[player_tooltip player_id="1384454" first="David" last="Balogun"] 6’7 2025 PF of Cornerstone Christian.

At 6’7 Balogun is still on the raw side and still developing his overall skill set. He’s not planted in the post. He did some good things working from the perimeter and around the post area. He’ll shoot 3’s in the corner and wings if he’s open, and short jumpers close. His handling allowed him to get into the paint from the perimeter, he had some success. He’s a growing body with a good upside. We’ll see more. 8pts

[player_tooltip player_id="1385039" first="Zuri" last="Franklin"] 6’2 2023 G of Sacramento.

Franklin seems to be at his best when he’s defending, and annoying who ever he’s guarding. He’s got the body and strength to defend bigger players, and the foot speed to stay on ball. At 6’2 he’ll scrap for rebounds, and he’ll run the court. He’ll shoot a short jumper, and go up strong off two inside. 12pts

Marvin Pulley 6’1 2023 G of Monterey Trail.

Pulley is a player we’ll need to see more of. He’s a solid body player that was productive when we saw him at this event. He scored 17pts, knocked down a corner 3, scored buckets inside going up strong. He handled himself well on the court.

Jaelin Butler 6’5 2022 F of Lathrop

Butler standing 6’5 had some effect working both sides of the court. He scored most of his points in the paint using his jumper, driving from the high post with one dribble, and a spin move to get to the rim. and put backs. He had good awareness going after blocks with his lengthy arms, 4 in this game. 13pts

[player_tooltip player_id="1381931" first="Jevon" last="Blackmore"] 6’2 2022 G of St. Patrick-St. Vincent

Blackmore is a sneaky athlete he got our attention when they called a lob play for him, which he went and got, (didn’t convert) At 6’2 he has lengthy arms, and active hands to get steals and blocks on defense. He took a charge, runs the court, and finishes above the rim amongst other ways. He has a mid-range jumper and will shoot open 3’s.

Kendahl Hearns 6’3 2024 G of Sacramento.

While Hearns didn’t stuff the stat sheet, he showed some tendencies to be that glue guy while on the court. With his tough style of defending, a willingness to mix it up going for rebounds on both ends at 6’3. His handles are decent, he’ll use a pump fake and a good first step to attack.
