What a game!

Calvary Christian Academy held on to defeat North Broward Prep, 51-49, to capture the 4A-13 District Championship. North Broward Prep hit the Eagles early and took a small advantage into halftime (27-23). Calvary Christian Academy used a 18-10 third quarter to open up the final quarter cushion. I thought turnovers hurt North Broward Prep and led to transitional baskets for players like [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] and [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"]. In addition, put back slams from [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] and [player_tooltip player_id="829386" first="Brenen" last="Lorient"] gave Calvary Christian Academy Academy.

Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] - Calvary Christian Academy

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] finished with 13 points and hit the go-ahead bucket with just over seven seconds remaining. The 6-foot-5 guard drove into the lane and hit a short jumper to take the lead. Cherenfant did a great job scoring in transition off turnovers. His athleticism, quickness, and length in these situations was evident and often led to layups or dunks. The 4-star prospect holds offers from Appalachian State, Iona, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, USF and Western Kentucky. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"] finished with 11 points. The 6-foot-4 combo guard was able to use his size to attack the basket and finish. I like Allen’s compact dribble and ability to create in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] - Calvary Christian Academy

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] finished with eight points, at least six rebounds, and three blocks. The UCF commit did a great job protecting the rim, especially when North Broward Prep was in offensive motion. The 6-foot-9 power forward has the length and athleticism to block shots and grab routine rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"] - North Broward Prep

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"] made one of the best players off the night when he blocked a lob pass intended for [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"]. The 6-foot-9 power forward continues to show why he’s one of the best defensive rim protectors in South Florida. Abson has a pretty jump hook and also hit a 3-pointer. Overall, he plays really well with his back to the basket. The Appalachian State commit finished with 11 points, at least five rebounds, and three blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id="955571" first="Adren" last="Roberts"] - North Broward Prep

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955571" first="Adren" last="Roberts"] finished with a game-high 15 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers. The 6-foot-5 wing hit a nice crossover jumper on 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"] for one of his buckets. His outside shot has come along to go with his natural athleticism on both ends.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065431" first="Michael" last="Kalina"] - North Broward Prep

I thought 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065431" first="Michael" last="Kalina"] showed up big-time against a great guard in [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"]. The 6-foot-1 Kalina finished with nine points on a number of takes to the rim. He does a great job turning a corner and exploding into the lane. From there, Kalina can be ambidextrous on his finishes. In addition, I thought he made some nice passes to [player_tooltip player_id="955571" first="Adren" last="Roberts"] and [player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"]. Don’t count him out to sky in the air and grab tough rebounds, either.

[player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"] - Calvary Christian

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"] finished with ten points in the victory. The 6-foot-7 forward hit a big 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. One area he might look back on this game and critique was from the free-throw line. Glenn missed three out of four that might have gave Calvary a bigger cushion. Glenn is a Michigan commit.

[player_tooltip player_id="829406" first="Maximus" last="Fuentes"] - North Broward Prep

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829406" first="Maximus" last="Fuentes"] came back from an inadvertent elbow/scrape to the face and hit a huge 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Fuentes went to the locker room during the play. The 6-foot-3 guard finished with 11 points.
