Horace, ND - I made it over to Heritage Middle school in Horace last night to watch some of the up-and-coming talent from the Fargo/Horace/West Fargo area. It is also fun to see the young guys in these programs and to speculate what the varsity squads will look like in the near future. In the first half, Davies led the entire way and seemed to be in control. In the second half, Horace came out gunning and took the lead for a while. Davies eventually took the lead back and iced the game down the stretch. Horace is a brand new program and they only have freshmen and sophomores at their high school level. I think it was a good sign last night that the Hawks could compete with a powerhouse like Davies. Next year Horace will be joining the EDC with a varsity team and they will be competing with zero seniors in their program. It is going to be fun watching the Horace program develop over the next few years. It would be great if Davies and Horace could start an intense rivalry in the south metro. Like most people know, Davies is full of talent and athletes all throughout the program. Good luck to the Eagles and the Hawks as you head into the home stretch of your season.

*One thing to note is that players can only play so many halves in a season and only 3 in a night. Some players only played 1 half last night because they would be playing 2 halves in the JV game later in the evening. With that saying, some of the top players may or may not have put up as impressive of stats compared to a normal night.

SCORES

Halftime: Davies 19 Horace 16

FINAL: Davies 49 Horace 43

Davies

Kaleb Skari (2024) |5-11 G|

7 points, 1 triple. He seems to have a good feel for the game. When Kaleb was driving from the baseline he showed a nice-soft running shot. I liked his active hands on defense that led to steals and tips. He anticipated passes and picked off a delivery. Skari moves his feet well when he is pressuring the ball. He also blocked a shot. I was impressed with how well Kaleb communicated. Skari can also shoot it, he knocked down two 3-pointers for the coffin corner.

Maddox Maloney (2024) |6-2 F|

11 points. He looks to be another strong athlete for the Eagles. Maloney worked hard on defense and he had a blocked shot. When attacking the basket I was impressed with how Maddox sliced through the lane and finished at the cup. He impressed me with the way he battled and fought for offensive rebounds. Maloney was problematic in the Eagle press. In one possession, Maddox stole a pass, and broke away for a wide-open layup. He can turn a steal into points in little time.

[player_tooltip player_id="1145145" first="Peter" last="Havelka"] (2024) |6-4 F|

6 points, 1 triple. His size and length are the first things that stick out. His wingspan is also expansive. Peter moves well and played good on-ball defense. Havelka showed off his athleticism when he caught a lob pass high in the air on a BLOB play, came down, and elevated for a kiss off the glass basket. Peter shined when grabbing O-boards, he also stuck one back in for 2-points. Havelka has plenty of potential. Peter has the ability to hit the 3-ball, he drained one last night in the second half.

Parker Wirth (2024) |6-2 F|

4 points. He is a strong and physical athlete. Parker stuck out with his aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. I liked the way Wirth passed the ball to shooters when he was attacking. Parker looks to have a future as a 2-way player.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164090" first="Arrison" last="Throntveit"] (2024) |6-2 F|

5 points. He was one of the best athletes on the court last night. Arrison showed a sneaky head fake before he attacked the basket. When Throntveit was putting back an offensive rebound for 2 points he showed off an impressive vertical. Arrison was active in the press and he created turnovers in the frontcourt. When Throntveit was going up for a rebound or a shot it seemed like he floated in the air.

Horace

[player_tooltip player_id="1320251" first="Zach" last="Velure"] (2024) |6-0 G|

5 points. He is a slasher and a shooter. Velure moves well without the ball, sets his feet, and gets his shot off quickly. I liked his aggressiveness when rebounding against the bigger Davies players. I thought of him as more of a shooter going into last night's game but was impressed with his attacking ability and his toughness. He also had a blocked shot on a hustle play.

[player_tooltip player_id="1322499" first="Moose" last="Diomande"] (2024) |6-0 G|

3 points. He is an explosive athlete that man makes things happen. Diomande is a bit raw yet but his upside is exciting. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. On defense, Moose had a pickpocket steal. When coming off a ball screen, Moose looks dangerous going downhill. He does not just look for his own shot, Moose drove, drew two, and kicked to shooters. He is elusive when attacking through traffic. In the 4th quarter, Diomande showed off his athleticism when he hammered a blocked shot off the backboard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1200747" first="Mike" last="Siffoi"] (2024) |5-8 G|

13 points, 3 triples. He is not the tallest player on the court but he is speedy and relentless. Siffoi threw an impressive pass through the lane to a teammate that threaded the needle. Mike got going in the second half shooting the ball and brought Horace on a charge. He hit a college range 3-pointer to tie the game up at 39-39. Siffoi is an athlete to keep your eyes on in the coming years.

[player_tooltip player_id="1189404" first="Brady" last="Westphal"] (2025) |5-10 G|

He has been playing well at C and JV for the Hawks this season. Brady came in the game and was immediately the loudest communicator on the floor. Every coach loves a kid that talks on defense. That is an impressive quality for only being a 9th grader. Westphal is a skilled passer and his handles are advanced.

[player_tooltip player_id="1320252" first="Gavin" last="Olson"] (2024) |5-9 G|

3 points, 1 triple. He did not get much burn in the C game as he plays more JV. Gavin game came into the game in the 3rd and drilled a 3-ball right away. He is another fast player for the Hawks. Olson's jumper is silky smooth. I like his hustle up and down the court on both ends.

Deng Duot (2024) |5-9 G|

3 points, 1 triple. He is a hustler that plays with a ton of NRG. Deng had a great close out on a 3-point shooter and he got a hand on the ball to block it. Deng hit a 3-pointer on the other end of the floor. He picked off a pass on defense and he showed his speed running up an down the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="1296796" first="Carvin" last="Fish"] (2024) |6-4 F|

5 points, 1 triple. This big forward has been tearing it up all season long. Carvin did not get many minutes last night as they were saving him for the JV game. For his size, Fish is very talented and he can play in and out. He blocked a shot on the interior and he never gave an inch on post defense. He is a serious threat from outside, and Carvin drilled a deep one last night. He will be a newcomer to keep your eyes on in the EDC next season.
