I stopped over to Hollywood McArthur to watch the quarterfinals of Class 6A District 15. No. 1 seed North Miami and No. 2 seed Everglades each had first round byes.

Final Scores:

#4 American 67, #5 Hialeah 58

#3 McArthur 71, #6 Miramar 44

Standouts:

Jaden Piner - American

2022 Jaden Piner finished with a game-high 21 points against Hialeah. I thought Piner’s ball skill and power step off dribble penetration was impressive. He did a nice job finding a crease and using his quickness to attack the basket. On defense, I thought he was disruptive around the perimeter. He has quick hands and ability to pick off passes. I thought he played hard with a non-stop motor. Piner was on the floor a few times going after loose balls. Per information, Piner is the Patriots’ leading scorer (12.5 ppg) while dishing out four assists per game. 2024 Shane Alic (11.0 ppg) also finished in double-figures.

[player_tooltip player_id="955611" first="Helquis" last="Pulido"] - Hialeah

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955611" first="Helquis" last="Pulido"] finished with a team-high 18 points. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound forward did a nice job scoring along the baseline and in the paint. Pulido can play with his back to the basket and use his frame to create scoring opportunities. Moreover, he has long arms to finish on inside points. 2025 Daunte Foster did a nice job from the perimeter with a couple of 3-pointers.

Johaun Myles - Hollywood

2022 Johaun Myles scored all of his 11 points in the second half. I thought the 6-foot-4 guard played aggressive over the final two quarters and started to attack the basket. In particular, Myles used his length and athleticism to drive off from the perimeter and get deep into the lane. He can either finish or get fouled in these situations and go to the line. I like his ability to pass in transition as he keeps his head up right after a defensive rebound. In addition, Myles does a nice job creating off dribble penetration and finding an open teammate out on the perimeter. Overall, he has good court awareness and vision.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065436" first="Hasmar" last="Francois"]/Nate Hickman - Hollywood

2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="1065436" first="Hasmar" last="Francois"] and Nate Hickman did a nice job scoring from the perimeter. I had both players with a pair of 3-pointers. A few of those looks were from passes by Johaun Myles. I like Francois as a three-level player that can create off the dribble. Hickman moved well on defense and did a nice job staying in front of his defender. He’s light on his feet and reads his assignment well. I also liked the aggressive play of 2022 Jamal Billingsley. I thought the 6-foot guard relentlessly attacked the basket and was able to score through layup opportunities. On one play, Billingsley grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for an easy score down the lane. He finished with 12 points. 2023 Tyheim "Butter" Williams is another kid that has the body to play inside and grab rebounds. I would just want him to finish a bit more when he's right underneath.

Isaiah St. Preux - Miramar

The Patriots are a young team with mostly sophomores and juniors. One of those players is point guard Isaiah St. Preux. I thought the 2024 showed enough athleticism and shooting ability on the floor. St. Preux finished with 12 points and a pair of 3-pointers. 2024 Kendrick Preston (6'5) has some size and ability as a rebounder. 2024 Cornelius Pressley added seven points. Miramar has some kids that could use this off-season to grow and develop.

For any South Florida Prep Hoops news or information...please contact Michael Costeines @Steins_23 on Instagram or follow him on Twitter @Mungertown_Mike23.
