Metro Classic Day 4 Standouts

<p>The Metro Classic was filled with talent over the past four days as teams from all over the country convened at the RWJ Barnabas Center. The final day was filled with talent as prospects stood out throughout. Here are the day 4 standouts from the Metro Classic.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1381147" first="Samar" last="Abdullah"], 6’0 PG St. Thomas Aquinas 2022</strong></p> <p>The Trojans suffered their first loss of the season against the George School, but that was not because of Abdullah’s play in the back court. The 6’0 guard was key to their success in the first half as he knocked down three triples, including a half-courter to beat the buzzer. Abdullah handled the ball nicely in the backcourt and moved nicely without the ball. He slid his feet well on the defensive end and worked well with lead guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1013044" first="Adam" last="Silas"]</strong>. Abdullah’s play in the backcourt is key as St. Thomas Aquinas looks to make a deep run in the state tournament.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1285466" first="Christian" last="Bliss"], 6’3 PG George School 2024</strong></p> <p>Bliss was key to the George School’s victory over St. Thomas Aquinas as he sparked the comeback in the second half. The 6’3 guard played with confidence as he was able to get to his spot and able to rise up over his defender to get his shot off. Bliss has a tight handle, which he used to get to the rim. He was able to draw contact on a consistent basis and got some deflections on the defensive end. Bliss is a talented guard prospect who should continue to have big games as the season progresses for the George School.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1027932" first="Scott" last="Gyimesi"], 6’6 SF Rumson-Fair Haven 2022</strong></p> <p>Gyimesi may have started the game slow against Arts, but was key to the Bulldogs’ come from behind victory over Arts. The Tufts commit has a nice touch around the basket and used his body to get to his spot on the floor. Gyimesi has a good handle and was able to draw contact with consistency. He ripped down rebounds on both ends of the floor and made very few poor decisions with the ball in his hands. Gyimesi has been the go-to guy for Rumson-Fair Haven all season and should continue to put up big numbers for them with the Shore Conference Tournament right around the corner.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1033429" first="Pete" last="Meixner"], 5’11 PG Westfield 2023</strong></p> <p>Meixner had key plays for the Blue Devils over the course of the game, especially when <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1018572" first="Sean" last="Logan"]</strong> fouled out halfway through the fourth quarter. The 5’11 lead guard used his handle effectively as he was able to get the offense running. Meixner hit a key layup to beat the first quarter buzzer and was not sped up by St. Joe’s Prep’s press. He got deflections on the defensive end and moved well off the ball. Meixner’s play in the backcourt is something that will be key for Westfield as the postseason approaches.</p> <p><strong>Jorge &amp; Guillermo Diaz, 7’0 PF IMG Academy Prep 2022</strong></p> <p>The Diaz brothers were unstoppable as the Patrick School National had no answer for them. The lanky 7-footers finished strong around the basket as they threw down thunderous dunks during the game. They both have nice releases on their jumpers, showing the ability to stretch the floor. Their length made it tough for the Celtics to get good looks around the basket and they skied for rebounds on both ends.
