The high school boys’ basketball season is underway and we at Prep Hoops Indiana want to give you the absolute best coverage in the whole state. Indiana is full of great teams and talented players thus giving the fans incredible matchups every week. Join me, Kyler Staley, every Monday during the season as I preview the 3 Players, 3 Teams, and 3 Matchups to watch for that coming week. Are you ready? Let’s get started!

3 Players

Antonio Lisenbee Jr. – 6’7 2022 PF Arsenal Tech: It is amazing to me that Lisenbee Jr. has zero offers this far into the season. For his size and position, he is one of the most skilled, athletic, and powerful big men we have in the 2022 class. On a 16-3 Arsenal Tech team, his insane motor provides the much needed rim protection and he plays above the rim which helps the guard heavy Titans a ton on the offense. This guy could come in right away for any school, low D1 and down, and help out right away. Maybe an extended run in the post-season, which is very likely, will help out his recruitment? Until then, make sure to check him out this week as he and Tech travel to Victory College Prep (2/8) and Lafayette Jeff (2/11)..

[player_tooltip player_id="769703" first="Richard" last="Brooks"] – 6’3 2022 SF – Mishawaka Marian: Brooks is a bigger, stronger wing that knows how to score the ball and does it at a high level. He plays physical on both ends of the floor and his aggressive style is one of the many reasons why this Mishawaka Marian team is standing at 14-3 and one of the best teams in all of 3A. Does have an offer from Trine but am a little shocked that more smaller schools have not offered this guy. He and Knights travel to New Prairie (2/8) and South Bend St. Joesph (2/11) this week.

[player_tooltip player_id="1269899" first="Kaden" last="Stanton"] – 6’1 2022 PG – New Albany: Coming into this season, Stanton was one of the seniors we at Prep Hoops Indiana were high on to have an excellent senior season. Even though New Albany has not been as dominant as they have in the past (9-7), the play of Stanton has been a consistent presence for the Bulldogs. In my opinion, he is one of the more underrated lead guards in the state as far his skill is concerned. He distributes, plays tough defense, creates, scores the basket at a high level, and a whole lot more. Like the other two players in the "3 For 3" this week, very surprised more offers have not come his way. He and New Albany will travel to Providence (2/11) and Silver Creek (2/12) this week.

3 Teams

Ben Davis (4A): This Ben Davis team is arguably the most underrated 4A team in the Indy area, even though they are 14-5 and in the top 10 in the 4A rankings. They have a pretty balanced roster and are led by their scary 1-2 punch combo of [player_tooltip player_id="1158204" first="K.J." last="Windham"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1042497" first="Zane" last="Doughty"]. To add to that dangerous combo, the supporting guys of [player_tooltip player_id="1049168" first="Jesse" last="Faires"], [player_tooltip player_id="1269595" first="Tionne" last="Spates"], and Kenny Troutman help make this team hard to guard. Keep a close eye on the Giants the rest of the season. This week, they travel to Covenant Christian (2/8) and Lawrence North (2/11).

NorthWood (3A): The Panthers of NorthWood have been one of the more dominant teams in all 3A. They currently stand as the #2 ranked team in 3A at a very impressive 17-1. Last week, they played in the only game that was going on in the state during the terrible snow/ice storm where they went on the road to beat Concord 52-50 in OT. Throughout the year, they have relied on two players a lot and those guys are [player_tooltip player_id="1226596" first="Cade" last="Brenner"] and Ian Raasch. I will be very curios to see how far this team goes in the post-season. This week, the Panthers host West Noble (2/8) and Mishawaka (2/11).

South Spencer (2A): South Spencer is a sneaky good team in Class 2A. As it stands right now, they are #9 in the 2A rankings, 12-2 overall, and have won their last 5 games. Overall they are a very mature team with experience being led by senior PF [player_tooltip player_id="1063966" first="Holton" last="Compton"]. This week, the Rebels will travel to North Posey (2/8) and host Princeton (2/11).

3 Matchups

Lawrence North (4A) at Carmel (4A) – Feb 7th, 7:30pm: The most hyped game of last week has been become the most hyped game this week due to it being pushed out because of the snow/ice storm in Indiana last week. The last time these two faced off was the Class 4A State Championship game last season which saw Carmel defeat Lawrence North 51-46 in OT. This season, Carmel returned pretty much everybody from last season’s team with Lawrence North losing a ton from last year. The good news is, Lawrence North still have [player_tooltip player_id="870213" first="Chris" last="Gunn"] who is one of the best players in the state. However, don’t think Gunn will be enough to get past the trio of [player_tooltip player_id="769662" first="Peter" last="Suder"], [player_tooltip player_id="1042491" first="Sam" last="Orme"], and [player_tooltip player_id="769678" first="Charlie" last="Williams"]. My pick is Carmel here. Can’t wait to be here live and in-person to watch this.

Bloomington North (4A) at Terre Haute North (4A) – Feb 11th, 7:30pm: This game should just be a tough, grind it out contest in the Southern Indiana. Both of these teams have had excellent seasons this year and both are teams to watch out for come post-season time cause they could really bust up some brackets. The key to this game will be whether [player_tooltip player_id="870215" first="Nick" last="Klaiber"] of Bloomington North will be available after suffering a lower body injury this past December. With or without Klaiber, I think [player_tooltip player_id="868224" first="JaQualon" last="Roberts"] has a big game to give the Cougars a huge road win. This is going to be a great game regardless.

North Daviess (1A) at North Knox (2A) – Feb 11th, 7:30pm: It seems like North Daviess is always the suspect of fun, interesting matchups. That is certainly the case here as they travel to a 10-6 North Knox team that is flat-out tough. Being led by senior guard Holtman Doades, the Warriors have beaten the teams they are supposed to beat but don’t have that one huge win yet this season. Will it happen this week? In my opinion, it will not. This North Daviess team is just so good and have one of the best players in all of Southern Indiana in [player_tooltip player_id="935727" first="Jaylen" last="Mullen"]. North Daviess gets it done on the road.
