Check out my list of some of the best available and unsigned senior shooting guards from 2022! Look for them to get some late buzz as this season winds down, and maybe as they lead their teams towards a state title shot!

[player_tooltip player_id="1052072" first="Mason" last="Jones"] 2022 6’4 Keller Central High School

Mason is a recent McDonald’ All American Nominee, and for great reason. The sharp shooting guard thrives at scoring at all three levels, especially getting to the midrange off the dribble. He is always calm and collected and willing to shoot over the top of anyone with his long arms. At time it seems like no guard can actually stay in front of him and reliably contest his shot. It has been fun watching him get more aggressive over the last year, and now he always seems to be a man on a mission every time he steps on the floor.

His length allows him to consistently finish with the best of them, and has pulled off some impressive dunks but where he is making his mark is from shooting the ball at a high level. He seems to have the same release on his jumper from every spot on the floor. The effectiveness he already has in the midrange and from beyond the arc is outstanding and really puts pressure on the defense. He does not only shoot well off the catch either, he is able to lull you to sleep with his handle or even work you out with his back to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id="958616" first="Chendall" last="Weaver"] 2022 6’2 Mansfield Timberview

Chendall is a super athletic combo guard who can finish with the best of them at the rim. His ability to explode at the rim and finish some emphatic dunks really stood out and made him a highlight reel in a few games (such as at the Whataburger Classic). I was very impressed with not just his big time dunks, but his smooth finishes at the rim, even through contact. He showed off a reliable ability to finish at the rim over any level of defender. In the open court, he is a beast with his aggressiveness and willingness to take on any defender in the air. If he sees a bit of space he is exploding over you!

However he is not just a slasher or finisher at the rim, he can easily space the floor and knock down shots beyond the arc. Weaver is a very reliable set shooter, especially in the corners and along the wings. His willingness to attack the basket and put consistent pressure on the defense in the paint really opens up the floor for his teammates. I was also very impressed with his ability to take on defenders at the rim on the defensive end, he came up with some jaw dropping blocks on a few big dunk attempts. His ability to play on both ends of the floor, especially in the paint for his size, is so impressive and should be highly coveted at the next level.

Jackson Adams 2022 6’4 Reagan High School

Jackson is a sniper from beyond the arc, and in the midrange. He displayed an ability to score at will despite intense defense and him being his team’s main offensive weapon. He attacks the basket at a high level as well, however his main damage is normally done beyond the arc and in the midrange. He displayed an ability to knock down a soft touch floater that he got off over bigger defenders in the paint. Adams is a fearless player who thrives at scoring the basketball from any spot on the floor. Him and fellow senior guard Trey Thompson have been taking over games for Reagan all season long. Reagan is currently undefeated in district play and boasts a 25-4 record at this point in the season, and it is all mainly due to the efficiency of Adams and Thompson.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDWbeHrJyKQ&t=10s

[player_tooltip player_id="1328096" first="Justin" last="Norris"] 2022 6’5 Cypress Ranch High School

Justin is a sharp shooting guard who thrives at scoring beyond the arc. He possesses great length and size which allows him to be effective in the paint and on the defensive end of the floor. For Cypress Ranch he is acting as a stretch forward which is a bit out of position for Norris, but his work on the defensive end is the reason why. His length and ability to move his feet takes a lot of pressure off of his guards who can funnel the other team to Norris and fellow senior wing/ forward Muo [player_tooltip player_id="1052160" first="Dubem" last="Muoneke"] (2022).

The reason he is a shooting guard on this list is due to his time in AAU (Texas Takeover Elite) where he was primarily their shooting guard/ small forward. Justin thrives as a shooting option when given the time to set his feet, and consistently knocks down shots from range as the trailer option. I would like to see him get more aggressive and start hunting for his shot in the midrange more, especially off the dribble.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2w0ZykeT9U
