In a Big Eight Conference battle, Madison Memorial went on the road and took down Janesville Parker 58-42 on Thursday...

[player_tooltip player_id="951132" first="Braylen" last="Blue"] - 2023 - PG - Madison Memorial

Blue had a nice spurt in the first half where he knocked down a 3-pointer, fired in as pass against the zone for an assist, and took a steal the other way for an easy basket that sparked Memorial to build a 31-15 lead. Blue picked apart the zone throughout the game. If he didn’t make the assist, the junior guard often had the pass that led to it. Defensively, Blue plays with very active hands. The 6-foot-5 guard always has his arms up, alters the direction of the ball, and gets his hands on a lot of balls. He also rotates very well and has a feel for when a teammate is about to get beat, anticipating the next pass. A knockdown 3-point shooter, Blue finished with nine points in Thursday’s win.

Sam Mickelson - 2024 - F - Madison Memorial

Mickelson had a game-high 18 points. Really like the way Mickelson moves without the ball. The 6-foot-7 forward does a great job of flashing in the high post and has a quick trigger in the mid-range. Mickelson roams the perimeter, looking for face-up or catch-and-shoot opportunities. A long, lanky forward with some skill, Mickelson also runs the floor well and can clean up misses on the break. Has to get stronger, but can finish with finesse rather than power right now. Defensively, Mickelson can guard multiple positions and does a great job of staying vertical, able to alter shots without fouling.

[player_tooltip player_id="1324016" first="Tre" last="Miller"] - 2023 - G - Janesville Parker

Miller got Parker going with consecutive 3-pointers, each with a hand in his face. A prospect that caught our attention during some fall league stuff, Miller has had a solid junior campaign, averaging nearly 18 points per game. A strong, athletic guard, Miller can shot fake and get downhill in a hurry. Scoring 13 points, Miller was able to set up his drives after knocking down some outside shots. Miller can play uptempo or in the halfcourt. He’s listed at 6-foot, but plays much bigger, able to use his size to bully people en route to the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1200543" first="Jacob" last="Naber"] - 2022 - PF - Janesville Parker

Naber is a back-to-the-basket big man, but can be a threat from 12-18 feet out, even if he’s not taking jumpers. The senior forward has really good feet and can work his way in with multiple, patient dribbles. Love the fall away game of the 6-foot-7 forward. Naber is right-hand dominant, but you don’t know which shoulder he’s turning over when he backs you down in the post. Despite missing a chunk of the game after a hard fall, Naber scored a game-high 16 points. He possesses a good blend of strength and finesse. Naber has a high motor and a strong upper body to power through contact. There’s very little panic when opposing teams send a double at him. Naber is a quality passer out of the post and won’t immediately abandon his post touch either, making sure the defense is full sucked in before he kicks that ball out, giving his teammates open shots in rhythm.

[player_tooltip player_id="1374851" first="Ian" last="Wischhoff"] - 2025 - PG - Madison Memorial

A freshman that plays beyond his years, Wischhoff does a lot of good things for the Spartans. At 5-foot-9, he’s picked on a bit defensively because of his size, but should be a big part of this program’s future. He’s a really good ball handler that values possessions. Wischhoff always seemed to be the safety valve when a teammate got in trouble and needed help/somewhere to go with the basketball. It’s subtle, but he cuts so hard at times, makes his man hug him away from the ball, and the opposition forgets about their help responsibilities, which opened up a lot of driving gaps. The lefty is quick and possesses blow-by ability. He’s also able to catch and shoot from distance. A steady, calming presence, Wischhoff really didn’t come off the floor on Thursday. Wischhoff had a key assist to get Memorial out of a slump offensively late in the second half. He would finish with 11 points.
