Photo: Liam Brennan (@leprechaunfilms)[/caption]
Covid cancellations / postponements continue to make a mess of the high school basketball schedule here in southeastern Pennsylvania. However, we still managed to witness several contests this past week that featured noteworthy college basketball prospects.

Below is a quick review of six prospects we saw in-person or via online streams in the last week who impressed us with their high-level of play.

[player_tooltip player_id="1116044" first="JP" last="Baron"] – 6’2” / Senior / Pope John Paul II / NJ Shoreshots / Combo Guard: This multi-talented guard is the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s leading scorer at 20 ppg. and his latest scoring outburst was a thing of beauty. Baron scored at all 3-levels and drained 11-15 free throws on his way to 37 points (original reports had it as 34 points). His silky jumper was on full display. Believe it or not, so was his court vision and distribution skills.

[player_tooltip player_id="991212" first="Khalil" last="Farmer"] – 6’4” / Senior / Roman Catholic / Philly Pride National / Shooting Guard: This Hofstra commit continues to prove that he is one of the smoothest perimeter players in Pennsylvania. Farmer can score from anywhere on the floor. His ability to make threes on the move and off the dribble is especially impressive. In the opening week of Philly Catholic League action, Farmer helped Roman secure two big wins by recording 27 points and 8 rebounds against Cardinal O’Hara, and then 20 & 8 vs. Bonner & Prendie.

[player_tooltip player_id="1173984" first="Matt" last="Gilhool"] – 6’10” / Sophomore / Elizabethtown / Philly Pride National / Center: This athletic and long prospect with great hands continues to see his recruiting stock rise. With his size and physicality, Gihool can dominate the interior at both ends. However, he also runs the floor extremely well and for his size he is quick in tight spaces. Gilhool tipped off last week with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks against Hershey. Then Gilhool scored 28 points (13/16 on FGAs) and snatched 17 rebounds in an upset win (in OT) over Hempfield. Gilhool is attracting interest from the likes of Virginia, Penn State, Rutgers, and LaSalle.

[player_tooltip player_id="1192649" first="Myles" last="Grey"] – 5’10” / Sophomore / Reading / Reading KTB / Combo Guard: Grey has the reputation as a high basketball IQ lead guard who prioritizes distributing the rock to his all-state level teammates. Well, this past week, Grey was feeling it and proved he can get buckets in bunches as well. Thanks to some fantastic shooting from deep, Grey recorded games of 16 points (3 threes), 8 rebounds and 5 assists and then 24 points (7 threes) to go along with 7 rebounds. Both performances helped push the defending 6A state champions to victories.

[player_tooltip player_id="991320" first="Saahir" last="Lee"] – 5’10” / Senior / Penncrest / Media Mustangs / Point Guard: Lee is one of the shiftiest point men in southeastern Pennsylvania. He uses those elusive dribbling skills to create scoring opportunities for himself or to drive-and-kick-out-to-the-three-point-line. In 2021-22 Lee has proven to be a solid rebounding guard as well. Last month Lee was named the MVP of the Penncrest Holiday Classic tournament after he posted a triple-double in the championship game (16/11/10). This week in Central League action Lee posted a double-double – 26 points and 10 rebounds during a win over Ridley. Then in a tough loss to Garnet Valley, Lee scored 11 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="991185" first="Dereck" last="Lively II"] – 6’10” / Senior / Westtown School / Team Final EYBL / Center: The No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2022 was a double-double machine this past week. Still, what really grabbed our attention is that Lively is draining the occasional three ball. If that skill becomes a reliable part of his game, Lively's potential as a stretch-4 in college and then the NBA is scary high. He posted 10 points 13 rebounds and 4 blocks in a win over a talented Shipley team. Then Lively recorded 16 points,10 rebounds and 4 blocks (again). Unfortunately, it was not enough, as the Moose loss to Wilbraham & Monson Academy. Lively is committed to Duke.
