“The coach [Don Rekoske], he talks to me a lot, so that showed me a lot. I really love the school too.” Assistant Coach Gabe Johnson was not the point man for the recruitment, though John and Johnson did converse a touch. Rekoske, in the middle of his 18th season at the helm, spent his time to nail down the commitment of John Allen John Allen 6'1" | PG Van Buren County | 2022 State TN .

Back in 2021, Allen took an unofficial visit to Bryan College and met several of their current players. “I know Jamykah Battle, Marcus Allen, and Gene Holmes (East Nashville graduate),” said Allen. He was able to take the introductory conversations set up by the college coaching staff and turn them into peers, peers that taught him and teach him what it takes to be a college basketball player. “After that I kind of worked out with them a bunch of times. It is a lot guys that like to work on their game.”
Gene Holmes is an interesting case, in that Holmes was completely dominant as a senior at East Nashville High before signing with Bryan College. He imagined that domination would continue, for good reason, and yet he began on the Bryan College junior varsity. Though Holmes put his head down and worked his butt off, it was an emotional challenge for a player so accustomed to playing 28+ minutes per game. After conquering that tall hurdle, Holmes is now thriving for the Bryan College varsity.
“My goal is to pick his brain the next year or two,” said John Allen John Allen 6'1" | PG Van Buren County | 2022 State TN of Gene Holmes. “He plays a lot. He is the starting point guard.”
For John Allen John Allen 6'1" | PG Van Buren County | 2022 State TN , he knows his future as an NAIA point guard demands that he put on that elusive good weight.
“[Coach Rekoske] actually told me that his goal for me is to be the starting point guard for the JV team. Hopefully, I can get to varsity toward the end of the summer. I need to build my body up and move up to varsity by the winter of my freshman year. I only weigh 140 pounds at 6-foot-1. I want to get to 160.”

Recruiting never stops and even though nothing deserves more attention than the current high school basketball season, one extremely important week is fastly approaching.
National Signing Day [April 13th] opens the spring signing period.
Many of the top 30 Class of 2022 prospects signed in the fall, but for everybody else this window will be their first opportunity to sign on the dotted line thus formally tying them to the academic and athletic programs of their choice.

Jaylen Washington Jaylen Washington 5'8" | PG Kenwood | 2022 State TN (Clarksville Kenwood) has an offer from Chatt. State and hears from Walters State,” shared Kenwood Head Coach Cronin. Washington is an explosive lead guard with a dynamic game. His future appears to be veering towards JuCo. For now, JW is a player worth paying the admission to see. He is wildly entertaining, bouncy, prideful.
Fisk University offered Keith Roland, Jr. (Pearl-Cohn).
