Enjoy!

The Tournament Of Champions has come and gone and Del City captured the tourney title with an exciting 59-49 win over Memorial in a top five battle between Class 5A powerhouses. After trailing 20-5 following the first quarter, the Eagles would rally back and eventually ran away with the tourney title. Keep it locked into Prep Hoops Oklahoma where we’ll have plenty of post-tourney coverage. In this post, we take a look at our pick for MVP of the tournament and also spotlight five more players with All Tournament honors.

Coming up later in the week, we’ll take a look at some of the breakout performers from the tournament in downtown Tulsa. We’ll also look at some of the sharpshooters who were dangerous from beyond the arc and then finally discuss some of the top things we learned coming out of the tournament. Without further ado, here’s our picks for tournament MVP followed by the All Tourney team.

MVP - [player_tooltip player_id="1356632" first="Jaedon" last="Foreman"] - 2023 Guard - Del City

The Tournament Of Champions always features some of the best players in the state and this year was no different. Several of the top 2022 prospects in Oklahoma were on full display throughout the tournament. However, it was a 2023 Oklahoma State football commit that ended up impressing enough to be our MVP of the tournament. Del City junior [player_tooltip player_id="1356632" first="Jaedon" last="Foreman"] was the most consistent player from start to finish for Del City’s run to the tournament title. Head coach Lenny Hatchett mentioned how important Foreman has been to this team early on this season as he’s made the transition to point guard. Hatchett had faith in the OSU football commit and Foreman has lived up to his coach’s belief. Foreman averaged 14 points per game and played a physical style of basketball that you would expect from a terrorizing defensive lineman playing on the basketball court. Del City is certainly starting to find the right fits in their lineup, especially with Foreman primarily running point and that’s a scary thing for the rest of their opponents this season.

All Tournament Team

[player_tooltip player_id="958389" first="Ben" last="Averitt"] - 2022 Forward - Jenks

Jenks’ leading scorer was senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="958389" first="Ben" last="Averitt"] as the Trojans came up short to eventual tourney champ Del City in the semifinals. Jenks would bounce back on Wednesday by beating Owasso in the third place game. Averitt would continue to be Jenks’ steady force in the paint as he would finish with 17 points in the win and that’s exactly what he averaged over the three-day stretch at the BOK Center, averaging 16.7 points per game. Averitt’s skill set was on full display during the tourney as he would grab rebounds and dominate in the paint against opposing big men. He could also step out and knock down a jumper and he was truly the spark to this Jenks offense. Averitt continues to have an excellent start to his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="955380" first="Caden" last="Fry"] - 2022 Forward - Owasso

The leading scorer of the tournament was Owasso senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="955380" first="Caden" last="Fry"], averaging nearly 23 points per game over the three days in downtown Tulsa. The Owasso big man also averaged 7.3 rebounds to go along with his tourney-high scoring average. He tied Victory Christian’s [player_tooltip player_id="1158048" first="Joshua" last="Udoumoh"] for the most points in a tourney game with 27 in their semifinal loss to Memorial when he scored 27 points. He also scored 20 points in their third place game against Jenks. Fry absolutely came alive after halftime of the game against the Trojans. He had just 2 points at halftime and ended with 20 on 8-10 shooting from the field. Fry has developed into a legit option in the post and is about as automatic as it gets. For the majority of their games this year, Fry will end up being a match-up nightmare for opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id="955379" first="Chase" last="Martin"] - 2022 Guard - Jenks

The second of two Jenks players to make the list is senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="955379" first="Chase" last="Martin"]. Similar to [player_tooltip player_id="1356632" first="Jaedon" last="Foreman"] at Del City, Martin has been put into the role of point guard this season and he’s responded incredibly well to the challenge. Martin’s stats aren’t as flashy as some of the other players on this list but when you watch him play and more importantly, when you watch Jenks without him on the floor, you can see the difference he makes on this Trojan team. Jenks jumped out to a big lead after the first quarter and Owasso would rally after Martin had to sit with two fouls in the second quarter. Martin and Averitt are two outstanding players and there’s a reason Jenks is one of the teams to beat in Class 6A this season. From running the offense, to blocking shots, to grabbing rebounds, Martin does a little bit of everything for the Trojans and has earned his spot on this list.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158048" first="Joshua" last="Udoumoh"] - 2022 Guard - Victory Christian

We’ve seen Victory Christian senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="1158048" first="Joshua" last="Udoumoh"] a few times already this season and we can’t help but sing his praises once again here as he was right behind [player_tooltip player_id="955380" first="Caden" last="Fry"] for points during the tournament, averaging 21.3 points per game at the BOK Center. Udoumoh is a special athlete for the Conquerors and what makes him one of the elite players in the state is how smooth he makes things look. From driving to the basket, to no-look passes to pulling up from 25 feet, Udoumoh looks absolutely flawless with the ball in his hands. He’s a complete game-changing player and at the rate he’s going so far, he’s going to be on the short list for arguably the best player in Class 4A basketball this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="955392" first="Tyreece" last="Frierson"] - 2022 Guard - Memorial

We’ve written quite a bit on Memorial senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="955392" first="Tyreece" last="Frierson"] already this season but he’s earned the accolades and he’s earned his spot once again right here. The Chargers certainly let one get away from them in the title game against Del City but Frierson was once again the best part of this Memorial team, that is still one of the best teams in the state, regardless of class. Frierson is absolutely electric with the ball in his hands. When he’s running the point for this high-powered Memorial attack, you can’t help but say "wow" a few times at the moves and quickness he plays with. His vision was on full display and he also showcased his ability to make shots when he needs to. After being the leading scorer for the Chargers, Frierson has taken it upon himself to become more of a facilitator and a complete point guard this season.
