Thanks to the fantastic video quality of the YouTube streams that CISNtv puts out, we were able to get caught up on several CIML teams during the holiday break. We checked out Ames, Ankeny, Centennial, Johnston, Lincoln, Marshalltown, Northwest, Roosevelt, Southeast Polk, Valley, and Waukee, and we’ll be posting some scouting reports on players from each of these teams over the next few weeks to help fill the basketball void. In this article, we’re taking a look at 2023 forwards from the aforementioned teams.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167685" first="Vance" last="Peiffer"] (Waukee)

A versatile 6-7 forward who projects as a solid stretch-4 at the next level, Peiffer actually reminds me quite a bit of former Waukee big man Dylan Jones, who has become an important piece at Upper Iowa. They move similarly, are both switchable defenders with some length, and each of them can stretch the floor a bit and have good footwork on the block. Peiffer had 11 points and buried 3 3-pointers (on 6 attempts) in the Warriors’ loss to Valley, showing excellent form and good rotation on his jumper. He’s a strong big who pounds the offensive glass. He showed ability both as a pick-and-roll big, rolling hard to the rim after setting screens, and as a pick-and-pop big who can stretch the floor. He has good hands and will provide versatility on both ends of the floor to whichever Division II ends up landing him.

Kadyn Proctor (Southeast Polk)

Watching Proctor on the hardwood, it's easy to see why he's the best offensive tackle prospect in the country. He's huge and immovable in the paint but has nimble feet and excellent hands. He catches everything that is thrown to him and has pretty good footwork for someone who hasn't really played that much basketball. He can get good position on the block, rebounds well, and has some touch around the bucket. His future is most certainly on the gridiron, but he's a solid piece for the Rams in the paint on both ends of the floor, and his work here will definitely help him on the football field too.

Lincoln Cantrall (Southeast Polk)

A 6-7 stretch-4, Cantrall knocked down 3-5 from behind the arc in their loss to Johnston, showcasing a quick release and plenty of range on his jumper. He's thin, and will need to add some weight and strength to his frame as he moves to the next level or he'll get bullied around, but he uses his length well to compete on the glass, and with his size, length, and shooting, he'll be someone to monitor moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167697" first="George" last="Williams"] (Roosevelt)

Williams is a 6-5 forward with excellent footwork and hands. He battles hard on both ends of the floor for positioning and rebounds well both in and out of his area. He can finish through contact and has a few go-to post moves that he's able to score with. He needs to continue to work on his left hand, as every finish right now appears to be with the right, but he has a lot of talent and plays hard on every possession. He showed some defensive awareness, sliding in to take a big charge in their loss to Marshalltown, showing that he rotates well and sees the entire floor on that end. He finished with 13 points (5-10 FG) and 7 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167709" first="JJ" last="Kohl"] (Ankeny)

A 6-8 big man who is also a standout quarterback, Kohl is a mobile big who runs the floor hard and establishes good early position. He has good hands, decent touch around the rim, and has a good free-throw stroke, suggesting he may be able to add some range to his game. He rebounds well and is a switchable defender who does well in pick-and-roll defense. He's a strong finisher around the rim who finished with 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-4 FT) and 5 rebounds in the Hawks win over Lincoln.
