The start of the Garden State basketball season was filled with excitement as teams were finally able to get back on the floor. Prospects across the state had big-time performances, including several who are unranked. Here are the unranked prospects who had big opening weekends.

Madrit Asani, SG Boonton 2022

Asani was putting up good numbers for Boonton over the last two seasons, but he has turned into high gear in 2021-22. The senior guard has put up 62 points through his team’s first two games and should continue to put up numbers throughout the season. Asani has been a sniper from distance as he knocked down 11 triples so far, including seven in the season opener. He also shown an ability to get to the free throw line and has done a nice job on the glass. Asani’s torrid start to the season is something to keep an eye on as he looks to continue his high-scoring ways throughout the season.

Logan Wejnert, 6’0 PG Waldwick 2022

Wejnert has gotten off to a hot start this season as he has scored at least 25 points in each game this season. The 6’0 guard dropped 31 points on Friday, making it the third straight opening night with at least 30 points. Wejnert is at his best attacking the basket, but is also capable of knocking down jumpers from deep as he drilled 4 triples in his last game. He is a playmaker on the defensive end as he had eight steals on opening night. Wejnert’s ability to score points in bunches is something that will help his stock in a big way as the season continues.

Moshe Wilson, Paterson Charter 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="901971" first="Asim" last="Jones"] is the go-to guy in the Lions’ offense, but do not sleep on Wilson’s early start. The senior had a big opening game as he had a triple-double with 16 points, 11 assists and 10 steals. Wilson works well within the flow of the offense as he does not force many opportunities and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He is also a solid rebounder as he grabbed eight rebounds in his last game against Paterson Kennedy. Wilson impacts the game in so many ways and has the potential to have another triple-double this season.

Bryce Stokes, 6’3 SG Paterson Eastside 2023

Stokes has been the go-to guy for the Ghosts this season as he leads the team in points, rebounds and steals. The 6’3 guard has a smooth release on his jumper and can bury triples in bunches as he drilled four in his last game. Stokes is more than just a shooter as he can also finish around the basket and score in the mid-range. He is a strong rebounder for a guard and knows how to get deflections on the defensive end. Stokes has started off the season strong and should only continue to produce for Paterson Eastside as the season progresses.

Elisha Scott, 6’2 SG JP Stevens 2022

Scott has gotten off to a hot start this season as he leads the Hawks in scoring and rebounding. The 6’2 wing is at his best attacking the basket as he has a nice touch close to the rim and does not mind drawing contact. Scott is a tremendous rebounder as he is capable of grabbing boards against much bigger opponents. He is capable of knocking down jumpers from behind the arc and is an underrated defender. Scott is looking to continue his strong play as JP Stevens looks to be a sleeper team in the GMC this season.
