CdM Beach Bash: Best Scorers

<p>Corona del Mar — The 2021 Corona del Mar Beach Bash tipped off Monday featuring a handful of state and regionally-ranked teams, including Etiwanda, Santa Ana Mater Dei and Crean Lutheran. We were able to check out the action on the first day of the event and below are the best scorers we saw on that day.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="994972" first="Curtis" last="Williams"]</strong>, 2023, Etiwanda - The 6-foot-6 wing continues to show that he’s one of the more intriguing prospects in the state’s junior class. Williams is a smooth jump shooter both off the catch and off the bounce. He’s great at getting his feet set off of pin-downs to set up on-balance shots. Williams’ true bread and butter is his pull-up mid-range jumper. With his size, length and athleticism, he gets to his spots, rises up and shoots over any contesting defender. Williams led all scorers with 21 points in Etiwanda’s win over Newport Harbor.</p> <p><strong>Jake Read</strong>, 2023, Newport Harbor - Read was one of the surprises of the tournament for us as it had been a while since we were able to watch Newport Harbor in action. The 6-foot-5 wing is a shifty and slippery ball handler in space and uses his low, tight crossover to create space for a finish or a jumper. Read wasn’t shy against one of the state’s best defensive programs and went to work from the opening tip. The junior finished with 15 points to lead the Sailors in their loss to Etiwanda. </p> <p><strong>Kyle Gleason</strong>, Tesoro - The 6-foot-5 senior wing is looking to be one of the breakout players in Orange County this season along with a couple of his teammates who we will write about in another piece. Gleason scored 21 points in Tesoro’s 69-43 win over Redondo Union to help the Titans remain undefeated on the season. Gleason flashed some inside-out scoring ability and, with his nine rebounds, created second-chance scoring opportunities for himself by crashing the offensive glass. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="748756" first="Riyaan" last="Jiwani"]</strong>, Pacifica Christian - Jiwani is known for his three-point shooting ability, but in Pacifica Christian’s win over Valley View, the NYU-bound guard showed off some more scoring versatility. Jiwani knew the scouting report against him as the opposing defense looked to run him off the line at all costs. Jiwani put the ball on the floor and hit mid-range pull-ups in addition to a number of floaters en route to 17 points in the win. </p> <p><strong>Vyctorius Miller</strong>, Crean Lutheran - Miller is trending as a national level recruit in the sophomore class and his performance in a big win over Laguna Beach only solidified that thought process. The 6-foot-6 wing scores in every way imaginable from off the bounce three’s to transition finishes and isolation breakdowns to buckets, his size, fluidity and creativity with the ball makes him such a tough cover on the perimeter. Miller finished with a game-high 18 points in the win over Laguna Beach.</p>
