I was there for day two, taking in four games with tons of talent around the DMV and Virginia area. Here’s a look at some of the 2022 standouts from the day.
George Perkins George Perkins 6'8" | PF Sidwell Friends | 2022 State MD | 6’8” C | Sidwell Friends
Perkins was big in helping a Sidwell team that got off a slow start to turn it around in the second half and take down Episcopal for a chance to play in the championship. The 6’8” big is one of the best available bigs in the DMV as he’s long and mobile, he can run the floor hard and he’s an excellent shot blocker and rebounder as well. He showed good touch and played hard, and finished with close to a double-double in their win.
Devin Ceaser Devin Ceaser 6'1" | CG St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA | 6’1” PG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
The Saints were upset by Archbishop Carroll in their own tournament, but Ceaser did everything he could to keep them in the game going for 26 points, scoring 18 of those in the second half, and dishing out 4 assists. While he was streaky shooting it, he showed his unreal quick twitch and end-to-end speed, he flew all over on both ends and he made plays when his team needed him to. The Buffalo commit is set to be one of the top players in the state this year.
Rihards Vavers Rihards Vavers 6'6" | SF Archbishop Carroll | 2022 State MD | 6’7” WG | Archbishop Carroll
A new name in the DMV ,Vavers was huge for Carroll in their win, as he came out on fire and shot the cover off the ball in the first half, and made timely shots in the second half. It didn’t take long for you to realize the 6’7” wing was a sharp shooter, as he came out the gate with a couple of 3s and finished the first half 5-for-6 from deep, missing his final attempt of the half. He’s an available shooter with good size that finished with 25 points in the win, and is someone coaches should take a look at.
Maddax Winston-Evans | 6’3” WG | Collegiate
While Collegiate didn’t have a great showing in their matchup with Highland School, Winston-Evans had himself a good game off the bench and should be an x-factor for them moving forward. The 6’3” wing is a dead eye shooter from deep and was 3-for-5 from deep on the game, and he played with good toughness grabbing 5 rebounds and making a ton of hustle plays for his team.
John Loughlin John Loughlin 6'1" | CG Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’0” CG | Episcopal
While Episcopal struggled in their game against Sidwell Friends, Louglin showed he’s one of the most underrated floor generals in the area and helped them make a valiant come back effort. The 6’0” guard handled pressure and got them into sets, he hit shots and found his way to the line and he made good decisions for the most part with the ball in his hands.
