November Recap: Top Performers

<p>November was an eventful month for DMV Hoops. Between open gyms, scrimmages, and games, there was no shortage of action to follow. Here we highlight some of the month’s top performers.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="777061" first="Favour" last="Aire"] | center | Bishop McNamara ’22</h5> <p>Aire continues to be a difference-maker in the paint for the Mustangs. His offensive game is evolving steadily. Aire is now comfortable catching, turning, and shooting jumpers from the elbow. His touch from the free-throw line is also commendable. </p> <h5><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/darren-buchanan-jr/">Darren Buchanan Jr.</a> | forward | Woodrow Wilson ’22</h5> <p>Buchanan did a bit of everything throughout Wilson’s impressive performance during a recent scrimmage at Ireton. He scored at all three levels and played solid defense. One takeaway from this performance is that Buchanan is beginning to add a few go-to moves into his offensive arsenal. </p> <h5>Cyrus Chisolm | guard | Sandy Spring ’23</h5> <p>Chisolm is one of the better-unranked guards you’ll find not just on this list, but in the DMV. He is a premium athlete who plays with high intensity at all times. Chisolm is a threat from three and a defensive menace. </p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="1127310" first="Rob" last="Dockery"] | forward | Woodrow Wilson ’24</h5> <p>Dockery and Buchanan are as formidable of a 1-2 punch as you’ll find in the local high school basketball scene. The sophomore can be devastating in transition. Dockery plays above the rim. He helps his team control the glass and is an authoritative finisher. </p> <h5>Donnie Freeman | forward | St. John’s ’24</h5> <p>From start to finish, Freeman was responsible for the most impressive individual performance of the month. The intensity with which he warmed up and played that scrimmage at SSSAS will go down in the books. Freeman dove on the floor for 50/50’s. He defended with vigilance and asserted himself offensively. </p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="957022" first="Cam" last="Gillus"] | guard | Sidwell Friends ’23</h5> <p>Gillus is the alpha dog for a talented team at Sidwell Friends. During our trip to their open gym, he was in complete control. Gillus got wherever he wanted to on the court. He consistently created open looks for himself and others while making things difficult for his opponents defensively. </p> <h5>Masai Jenkins | guard | Maret ’22</h5> <p>Left-handed sharpshooter Masai Jenkins is going to drain a ton of threes this year. He hit six in a scrimmage against Sandy Spring earlier this month. Jenkins is a threat when he can get his feet set. He also has impressive range. </p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="777095" first="Bryce" last="Lindsay"] | guard | St. Frances ’22</h5> <p>Lindsay started his season in fine fashion with the Panthers. In a win over New Hope, he pumped in a game-high 22 points on high efficiency. Lindsay made shots from the perimeter and finished confidently around the rim.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="957026" first="Malik" last="Mack"] | guard | St. John’s ’23</h5> <p>Mack is back to full fitness and looks like he hasn’t missed a beat. He keeps the ball on a string, gets wherever he wants to on the court and is a danger to score or distribute. </p> <h5>Peyton Mason | guard | St. Mary’s ’22</h5> <p>Not long after watching Mason play for the first time did it take to realize not ranking him was a mistake. He is the heart and soul of his team from the lead guard spot. Mason scores, defends and makes plays at a high level.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="904638" first="Macahi" last="Nelson"] | forward | St. John’s Catholic Prep ’22</h5> <p>Nelson is one of the more gifted athletes you’ll find in the state. He is a relentless rebounder and an above-the-rim finisher. Nelson can score in the post against smaller opponents but is best in transition where gets up and down the court in a hurry.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] | guard | Landon ’23</h5> <p>Perkins authored a strong all-around performance during Landon’s win over SJCP on Monday night. He shot the ball well from deep but also mixed it up nicely in the paint. Perkins defended well both in the paint and on the perimeter.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="904648" first="Gavin" last="Walsh"] | forward | Loyola Blakefield ’22</h5> <p>Walsh continues to establish himself as one of the better-unsigned prospects in the region. With that said, he still has room to grow. Expect Walsh to continue flirting with double-doubles on a nightly basis as he will be the fulcrum of Loyola’s game plan.</p> <h5>[player_tooltip player_id="957020" first="Mike" last="Williams"] | guard | Calvert Hall ’23</h5> <p>Williams operated comfortably on the ball for the Cardinals during their season-opening scrimmage at St. Mary’s and is emerging as a top-tier guard option in the local 2023 class. He brings prototypical size to go along with the skill set required to be an effective combo-guard at the next level.  </p>
