I watched three games of the Sunshine State Preseason Classic at Westminster Academy. Other contests were held at nearby Cardinal Gibbons High School. Here is a quick rundown of the scores from Westminster.

McArthur 62, Westminster Christian 51

Blanche Ely 81, Somerset Academy Pines 40

Westminster Academy 75, Miami Southridge 67

Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="1301705" first="Alexander" last="Lloyd"] - Westminster Academy

2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301705" first="Alexander" last="Lloyd"] showed out in his first high school game. The 6-foot-3 guard scored 23 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the Lions’ eight-point victory over the Spartans. Lloyd looked to have a lot of confidence in his stroke and flushed a slam dunk under his incredible athleticism during the game. A few turnovers would be my only blemish. However, I would give him an "A" for his first high school game. Lloyd is going to be special.

[player_tooltip player_id="709262" first="Tyheim" last="Williams"] - McArthur

I thought [player_tooltip player_id="709262" first="Tyheim" last="Williams"] controlled the middle of the paint against the Warriors. The 6-foot-4 forward scored 15 points and routinely grabbed offensive and defensive boards thanks to his frame. Williams’ mass was a little too much for Westminster Christian to handle. He often carved out good position and finished using his power. I thought his efficiency was best on display during the second half. Williams should definitely build on his performance.

[player_tooltip player_id="962498" first="Daniel" last="Fernandez"] - Westminster Christian

2023 David Fernandez showed his toughness for four quarters against the Mustangs. The 5-foot-10 shooting guard battled through cramps and still scored a game-high 24 points. I thought Fernandez showed a ton of finesse on his drives and played deceptive off the dribble. He plays hard every time I watch him play.

[player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] - Westminster Academy

The Spartans had little answer for 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"]’s size in the paint. The 6-foot-9 power forward was a force around the cylinder and finished with 20 points. Carey would simply back down his defender and connect using his left or right off glass. Moreover, his buckets are a result of good footwork and athleticism. Carey also found himself at the free-throw line for some of his points. The only thing I would say is he needs to finish on a few more from the foul line. Carey would have probably had 25+ points with a few more makes. That’s pretty much the only way you are slowing him down.

Dez Brown - Blanche Ely

2022 Dez Brown is a super quick guard that finished with 15 points for the Tigers. I thought his awareness to score off turnovers and in transition was on point. Ely’s guard play in general, which included 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1295917" first="Armon" last="Forrest"], was too much for Somerset Academy Pines. Forrest also finished with 15 points. It was a dominant showing for its backcourt.
