Early Season Notes: Top Shooters

<p>The season is officially here! Most teams have completed tryouts, and some teams have already played games while others have one or two scrimmages under their belt. Here is a closer look at some of the top shooters we’ve seen during the early part of the season.</p> <h5 class="p1">[player_tooltip player_id="957055" first="Mikey" last="Allen"] - Bishop Walsh ’23</h5> <p>Allen stepped into a starting role for the Spartans in their scrimmage vs. McNamara and was very effective as a floor spacer. When stationed in the corner, he is a knockdown threat with his feet set. </p> <h5 class="p1">Owen Fischer - Loyola ’22</h5> <p>Fischer is a gym rat with a reputation for being the best shooter on his team. He is also a terrific defender who is strong enough to guard bigger foes. </p> <h5 class="p1">Chase Lawton - Bishop McNamara ’23</h5> <p>Lawton only hit one three in McNamara's scrimmage vs. Bishop Walsh, but it was the only one he attempted and it didn't hit the rim. Ask the Mustang coaches and they will tell you he is the best shooter on the team. </p> <h5 class="p1">Vilius Slanina - Bishop Walsh ’23</h5> <p>Slanina has as quick of a release as anyone on this list. He is always shot-ready with his feet set and his high release point makes it tough to block.</p> <h5 class="p1">Mayor Nekrashevich - Bishop Walsh ’23</h5> <p>Nekrashevich is a left-handed floor spacer with size. He is adept at using shot fakes and ball fakes to create space. Nekrashevich is also a smart and vigilant defender in the post.</p> <h5 class="p1">Selden Pickens - Sidwell Friends ’23</h5> <p>After about his fifth made three during Sidwell's open gym, it was time to ask Coach Singletary about Pickens. He is a true knockdown shooter who rebounds at his position. </p> <h5 class="p1">[player_tooltip player_id="1127314" first="Caleb" last="Williams"] - Sidwell Friends ‘24</h5> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Williams-Caleb-Head-Shot.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1328448" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Williams-Caleb-Head-Shot-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p>If Pickens is the most consistent shooter at Sidwell, Williams has the most range. You'll often see the 6-foot-7 lefty pulling up in rhythm from several feet behind the line and converting. Williams is quite comfortable shooting over the top of most opponents but also utilizes jab steps effectively to give him extra room. </p>
