Saturday afternoon PH was in the gym at Salesian Prep High School, Richmond, CA for the annual scrimmage between Salesian Prep and Bishop O’Dowd, two traditional NorCal powers in basketball from the East Bay. Both teams have plenty of young talent, but will be led by some familiar names this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="950886" first="Tyler" last="Harris"] 6’7, G/W/F PH#1 prospect in the 2023. The 6’7 Harris a transfer from Newark Memorial wasted no time adjusting to his new teammates and surroundings, it’s early but the versatile Harris had his arsenal on display in his first game. He’s going to effect the game on both ends with his length, rebounding, changing shots, passing, and scoring. Harris can play inside, and use his feathery touch around the rim, and take over ball handling duties at the top with his passing and ability to see the whole court. He can slide and glide his way to the rim from the perimeter with long strides.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143737" first="Cameron" last="Brown"] 6’3 G/F Bishop O’Dowd HS. 2022

Brown looks to be one of the main contributors on this team, and ready for a breakout season. The 6’3 or 4 player is strong, he plays with good balance and comes at you strong on the drive, from different angles. He can knock down the mid-range jump shot, and be an effective player in the post. He showed strength, and the ability to score in traffic. He can defend, and rebound.

[player_tooltip player_id="947394" first="Austin" last="Johnson"] 6’4 SG of Salesian Prep HS. 2022

Johnson is entering his 4th season as a Varsity player. He has the experience, and is physically fit to handle what comes at him on the court. He knocked down a couple of corner 3’s. With improved handles he spent time bringing the ball up court, and setting the offense. He played through the contact on the drive to get himself to the free throw line.

[player_tooltip player_id="1253155" first="Amos" last="Hodgson IV"] 6’2 SG of Bishop O’Dowd HS. 2023.

Hodgson, the aggressive scoring guard, showed that he can defend on the court as well in the early goings of the scrimmage. He had good foot speed, and lateral movement to make the trap work. Later on he got his shot going, knocking down a corner 3 and a mid-range jumper to show his scorers mentality is in tact.

[player_tooltip player_id="1255642" first="Emerson" last="Jones"] 6’6 W/F of Salesian Prep HS. 2023

It was our first good look at Jones in a different setting. The long skinny forward was quite impressive with his activity, and hustle on both ends of the court. He had good foot work around the basket, including a few mid-post spin moves to finish at the rim. His reach going after rebounds, blocks, and dunks were noticeable. He had some success working the perimeter with drives to the paint, and a nice short corner jumper. We’ll see him again.
