Continue ReadingClass 1A literally had a season to remember. The all-state team comprised of the three best players in the class of 2021 along with a few others that have gone on to play college athletics and each championship game (class 1A and Division 4) was competitive into the 4th quarter. As we move forward, this version of the preseason class 1A all-state team might not be as highly acclaimed. However, this preseason team is one that will be able to hold its own with any other class in the state.
Both teams will be listed in alphabetical order.
1st Team
F – Randarius Morris Randarius Morris 6'4" | SF Northwood-Lena | 2023 State LA (6’4″ | Northwood-Lena | Sr.)
F – Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC (6’7″ | Southern Lab | Jr.)
G – Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA (6’1″ | North Central | Sr.)
G – Deion Ware Deion Ware 6'4" | CG Hamilton Christian | 2023 TX (6’4″ | Hamilton Christian | Jr.)
F – Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL (6’6″ | Calvary Baptist | Sr.)
In terms of raw talent and ability, this team checks all of the boxes. Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL is one of the top players in the 2022 class and this preseason he has been totally locked in. If his play continues on this plane, he may average and 30 and 10 double-double for the season. Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC has the potential to be the player of the year in this class. He had a fantastic summer with LivOn Fleur-de-lis and turned many heads at the elite camps he attended. His national ranking is definitely warranted. Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA has been one of the best defenders in the state the last three years. His teams have also been the best in class 1A over the past three years. This Hurricane team is loaded with talent and with Stoner as the leader, playing for another championship would not be a surprise.
Some may not know Randarius Morris Randarius Morris 6'4" | SF Northwood-Lena | 2023 State LA . They will spend this season getting to know him. His 18 and 10 last season were no joke and he has the potential for larger numbers this season after the summer he had. Watch out for this guy. Deion Ware Deion Ware 6'4" | CG Hamilton Christian | 2023 TX is one of the most gifted scorers in the state. His lefty jumper coupled with his ability to get to the rack may see him average 20-plus a game. Ware will be a pleasant addition to a stout Hamilton Christian squad.
2nd Team
G – Alex Broussard (6’3″ | Vermilion Catholic | Sr.)
F – Ivan Clark Ivan Clark 6'4" | SF Tensas | 2022 State LA (6’5″ | Tensas | Sr.)
G – D’anthony Kimble D’anthony Kimble 6'4" | CG Homer | 2022 State LA (6’3″ | Homer | Sr.)
G – Omarion Layssard Omarion Layssard 6'2" | SG Northwood | 2023 State LA (6’3″ | Northwood-Lena | Jr.)
F – Donald Lewis Donald Lewis 6'6" | PF Central Catholic | 2022 State LA (6’7″ | Central Catholic | Sr.)
Lewis has led Central Catholic to the playoffs the last two years and almost helped to usher an upset over Calvary Baptist last season. He is a double-double waiting to happen and will have Central Catholic competing again in their district and Divsion IV. Tensas seems to always have a player and Ivan Clark Ivan Clark 6'4" | SF Tensas | 2022 State LA is he. Clark is another player who has a good chance to average a double-double and will give Tensas a chance to compete for a district title in a deep district 2-1A. Alex Broussard was a surprsing player at the PH Louisiana Top 250 with the way he played on both ends of the floor. He may be the best player in 8-1A and will have plenty of chances to show it while competing for a district title.
Omarion Layssard Omarion Layssard 6'2" | SG Northwood | 2023 State LA is a physically gifted player who may be scratching the surface of his talent. He is a highlight reel waiting to happen in transition and has improved as a shooter from outside. When his shot is going, it allows him extra opportunities to attack the rim and get the crowd going. D’anthony Kimble D’anthony Kimble 6'4" | CG Homer | 2022 State LA is truly a talented player. He could go for a triple-double on most nights because of the way he passes and rebounds. Homer should be very good this season and Kimble will be a big part of that success because he orchestrates a lot of things that happen on the floor.
When the sportswriters name their team in March and April, the following players will be considered as well.
G – Martin Mcdowell Martin Mcdowell 5'10" | PG Calvary Baptist Academy | 2022 State LA (5’10″ | Calvary Baptist | Sr.) – McDowell will get a chance to score a lot playing off the ball more this season. He is an underrated defender as well.
G – JT Curry JT Curry 6'7" | SF Southern Lab | 2022 State LA (6’7″ | Southern Lab | Sr.) – The Kitten senior is a match-up problem because of his size. He may surprise a lot of people if he scores at a high clip this season.
G – De’Vion Lavergne De’Vion Lavergne 6'3" | CG North Central | 2023 State LA (6’3″ | North Central | Jr.) – Lavergne could be the breakout star in 1A. If there was a 5-tool player in basketball, he would be one of them.
G – Jalan Washington Jalan Washington 6'1" | CG White Castle | 2023 State LA (6’2″ | White Castle | Jr.) – Washington makes things on the offensive end look real easy at times. He competes on defense as well which sets him apart.
G – Eric Washington (6’2″ | Delhi | Jr.) – The Delhi junior is another player who thrives in the open court but can get his own in the half court. Making others better will get him a serious look.
