The athletes played in a college gym, in a high intensity and high pressure situation, with the school’s coaches right there watching every player. The players were split into 2 teams – Orange and Yellow. Let’s take a look at the rosters of the 2 teams.
ORANGE
Jayden Brock Jayden Brock 6'5" | SF Byron Center | 2024 State MI (2024, Byron Center)
Brock did a lot of the little things that coaches look for at events like these. For instance, he talked on D and moved without the basketball. That’s especially impressive from the youngest player class wise at the event. Brock has a huge upside.
Damaryon Fishburn Damaryon Fishburn 6'4" | CG Trillium Academy | 2023 State MI (2023, Trillium)
Fishburn proved to me that he’s easily a top 30 player in the class of 2023. He needs to be recruited ASAP. Fishburn has take over a game type skills. It seemed like he could score in any way and at any time.
Shawn Foreman Shawn Foreman 5'11" | PG Comstock Park | 2023 State MI (2023, Comstock Park)
Foreman has some of the best court vision and passing skills that you can find in the state. The young man is underrated and showed that he deserves more looks.
Gryphon Mayes Gryphon Mayes 6'6" | PF Pinckney | 2022 State MI (2022, Pinckney)
I really liked what Mayes had to offer on Saturday. His mid range game was terrific and he played a versatile style. Mayes passed the ball really well and played a terrific 2 man game in the open floor.
Brennan McKenzie Brennan McKenzie 6'0" | PG Adrian | 2023 FL (2023, Adrian)
McKenzie has really made a name for himself this fall and looks ready to be a critical piece of the puzzle for Adrian this season. Once again, his defense was at another level. McKenzie was also very efficient with the ball.
Aher Puhalski (2022, Schoolcraft)
Puhalski always seems to find a way to make an impact. I liked the way his jumper looked, hitting from both mid range and beyond the arc. Puhalski cut hard to the rim and caught the ball firmly when he got the dish.
YELLOW
Jonah Botardo Jonah Botardo 5'5" | PG Troy Athens | 2022 State MI (2022, Troy Athens)
Botardo is simply quicker and faster than most. His first step speed is very impressive. If Botardo gets a long rebound or a kick out pass, he can beat the defense down the floor and finish or dish it off.
Caleb Johnson Caleb Johnson 6'1" | CG Portage Central | 2022 State MI (2022, Portage Central)
Johnson showed off a really well rounded game on the offensive end. He scored on a nice drive to the right where he showed both straight line speed and a little shake to get free. Johnson also hit from behind the arc and showed some flash in his passing game.
Tayshawn Nathan (2023, Trillium)
Nathan is a player to keep an eye on this winter. He showed some really nice leadership abilities, communicating with his team and directing traffic. Nathan has some athletic hip movement on offense and is aggressive on that end.
Javion Otten Javion Otten 6'4" | SG Kenowa Hills | 2023 State MI (2023, Kenowa Hills)
Otten really showed out at the Flight Hankamp Open Run. He drove athletically to the rim and fended off the defense with his off hand. Otten can play above the rim on both ends of the floor, finishing with flare and altering shots.
Micah Saunders Micah Saunders 6'0" | SG Adrian | 2023 FL (2023, Adrian)
I usually talk about his speed, but Saunders showed even more than that on Saturday. He played aggressively and showed great body control when picking up buckets in traffic. Saunders had jump stop, pivot, and score as well as a pretty mid range jumper.
Jake Slezinger Jake Slezinger 6'3" | SG Gibraltar Carlson | 2022 State MI (2022, Carlson)
Slezinger keeps challenging himself at the open runs and keeps proving that he’s a next level player. Today, his 3 point shot really stood out and he’s a game changer with it when he hits a zone. When the D closed out, he used a pump fake and pass to get his team a bucket.
Ryan Young (2022, Buchanan)
Young had a really nice day at the Flight Hankamp Open Run. I really liked his fight, hustle, and muscle. He powered up put back shots through defenders. Young was always scraping himself off the floor after making hustle plays.
