Each year Long Island gets your adrenaline flowing for the upcoming season. By putting together an all star game pitting Nassau county vs Suffolk county. Some of the better stars participate in the always competitive, spirited game. This year’s event was held at Amityville high school. It was an up and down, plenty of threes and monsterous dunks affair. But in the end key defensive plays seem to always determine winners. Nassau county came from 22 points down to win 95-85. Here is the player of the game and 9 others who stood out. All the proceeds went to the Long Island Alzhimers and Demetia center.

Player Of The GAME

Kamren Denhart 2022

The 5”9 guard from Sewanaka was instrumental in the come back for the Nassau squad. He showed his poise with the ball weaving through traffic to finish in the lane. He also displayed his deadly pull up jumper from the elbow. He sealed the mvp for this game with steals late in the game. He was really good on the ball defending and also showed active hands getting deflections.

Nassau

Jacob Oka 2022

We saw Jacob in the summer for his Baldwin high school team. We were very impressed with the 6”4 post player. Despite giving up 5 inches inside to the Suffolk post players he was still very effective. He had 9 of his 15 points in the second half. Plus he was able to convert 3-3 from the free throw line. A strong body allows him to gain position inside to either score or rebound the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1047344" first="Manu" last="Alford"] 2022

Holy Trinity high school 6”3 player showed his strength getting to the rim in the half court or in transition. Manu also excelled defensively using his length. He is an long athletic player.

Zaire Baines 2022

The 6”0 guard from Portledge is a bulldog. He plays every possession on either end of the floor like it is the last one. Tremendous with the ball in his hands. He is a very cool under pressure, no situation seems to big. With the game on the line he sank 5 out of 5 free throws.

Jaedon Hutchinson 2023

St Marys junior at 6”3 was outsized but not out worked. He has a good frame and long arms and used both to defend and score. Has nice rotation on his jump shot.

Suffolk

Elijah Canady 2022

Playing in his Amityville high school gym the 6”1 Canady showed off his range. He hit 2 deep trees and also converted on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id="1136572" first="Xavier" last="Lewis"]. 2022

The 5”9 Hills East guard showed why he is one of the most explosive scoring guards on the Island. His pull up game is potent. When you give him space he drains deep threes. He is a pure scorer with a tremendous handle.

[player_tooltip player_id="1204335" first="Ryan" last="Williams"]. 2022

Ryan shared game high honors (19) with teammate [player_tooltip player_id="1136572" first="Xavier" last="Lewis"]. Ryan at 6”7 showed his range hitting 3 threes. He also threw down some monstrous dunks with one actually halting the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1047336" first="Nick" last="Watts"] 2022

This 6”8 big man was a main piece in Northport high school, Suffolk modified league championship last year. During the spring and summer he turned up his game in challenges from the city and upstate schools. A legitimate candidate for POY in Suffolk this coming season. Nick displayed an array of post moves. Has excellent footwork. He is very good at sealing his defender and can finish with either hand. Possesses a right handed jump hook over the left shoulder. He was also capable of stepping out and hitting the three.

[player_tooltip player_id="1203952" first="Malachi" last="Moore"]. 2022

Copiague high school multi dimensional 6”2 senior showed us how versatile of a player he is. Defensively he can guard multiple positions. With the ball in his hands he can create for others or score the ball himself. Really good and shifty in transition. Outstanding court awareness and a real good basic understanding of the game.
