The funny part is you can’t do the former without the latter. As a wise coach once told me, the possession isn’t over until we secure the rebound. In this article, we take a look at some of the best returning players in the state at doing just that. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1076695" first="Aaron" last="Mora"] <em>6’6 PF Hobbs 2022 (#24PHNM 2022)</em> - Mora is the top returning glass cleaner in the state. The undersized power forward has a knack for securing boards, doing so at a rate of over 11 per game a year ago. Mora started out like a house on fire last season snagging 66 boards in his first 5 games of the year. </p> <p><strong>Colton Gililland</strong> <em>6’3 PF Tularosa 2022</em> - The little-known forward had a huge impact on the glass last season. Gililland, a two sports star pulled down over 10 boards per game last season for the Wildcats. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"] <em>6’11 PF Las Cruces 2022 (#1PHNM 2022)</em> <em>(featured image)</em> - Carr is a fluid athlete and natural rebounder. He has long arms which is an obvious advantage, but his mobility and ability to grab out-of-area rebounds is also a big part of the reason why he boards at a high level. The GCU commit averaged just under 10 rebounds per game last season. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1282868" first="Daemon" last="Ely"] <em>6’7 PF Taos 2023 (#15PHNM 2023)</em> - It was kind of an up and down rebounding season for Ely, but when he was on he was on. He finished the year averaging over 9 boards per game, however, the bulk of the boards came in the middle of the season. The Junior forward put together two games of 13 boards and two games of 14 boards last year. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1285510" first="Lane" last="Clavel"] <em>6’1 SF Roy Mosquero 2022 (#49PHNM 2022)</em> - Clavel returns and brings over 9 boards per game with him. He had some good rebounding games early in the season including 14 boards against Des Moines. It was late in the year when he really made an impact, gobbling up 45 boards in his last 4 games, including a season-high 17 against Maxwell. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1076707" first="David" last="Chacon"] <em>6’5 PF Hagerman 2023 (#41PHNM 2023)</em> - The spectacled Chacon is a volume rebounder that was able to grab just over 9 boards per game last season. He was consistent with his glass cleaning ability as well.
