On October 15-17 I attended the 2nd annual Border League in various gyms around Las Vegas and Henderson in Nevada.

There were 6 divisions of 16 teams each and every team played in four games. The main site was games at Coronado which held some of the top teams. I watched there mainly but also managed to stop in at Silverado HS to watch some AZ teams along the three days.

Here were some of the AZ junior and soph standouts:

A sturdy framed guard has his catch-3 looking more and more polished and he is confident with it. He hit three from the catch and each one looked good in the 1st half. He plays smartly off of Lifgren and moves without the ball. He defends almost every position. Young will be pivotal for them to get back to the 5A State Finals.

[player_tooltip player_id="831120" first="Seydou" last="Tamboura"] St. Mary’s

An important player this weekend as Foune was injured and he got the start. He gives them extra possessions on the glass and defends anything inside the paint. He finishes efficiently around the rim and his motor keeps him on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301336" first="Bronson" last="Chambers"] Bella Vista Prep (Pictured)

A Canadian prospect is a catch and shoot 3pt shooter. He has a good build and a pretty stroke from the arc. He is a good athlete and will defend well on the perimeter using his length and decent size. When he gets rolling off the catch, he can rattle them off.

[player_tooltip player_id="814520" first="Isaac" last="Hymes"] Millennium

A long and lean forward does many things well for the Tigers. He can shoot it from mid to the 3pt line off the catch or off the dribble. He blocks shots out of area and will rebound. He handles the ball well for a forward. Hymes makes the Tigers an immediate contender in 5A.

[player_tooltip player_id="994006" first="Styles" last="Phipps"] St. Mary’s

A super shifty scoring point guard. His pull-up off the dribble is one of the best in the West. He can hit from mid to the 3pt line. He also has the ability to make plays for others, as he slips passes to his teammates in stride. He may be the reason they get back to the 4A State Finals.

[player_tooltip player_id="1312333" first="Kenny" last="White"] St. Mary’s

A cerebral soph guard can handle it a little but makes smart reads with the ball. The lefty can shoot it from the 3pt line with range and provide some much needed depth for the Knights.
