CBG Fall Series 1 Second Team

The CBG Fall Series was off this weekend in Richmond, so we decided to look back at some of the sessions before and make all session teams. With the amount of talent in the event over the past few weekends, it can be considered one of the top fall events in the state, and the prospects in the All Series Teams will back that up. Here’s a look at six players we thought deserved the recognition of second team in session one of the event on 10/3. [player_tooltip player_id="815594" first="DeJuan" last="Campbell"] | 6’1” PG | Kecoughtan 2022 <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Campbell-DJ-CBG.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1307738" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Campbell-DJ-CBG-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a> Campbell has been a staple at the CBG events over the past two years, and while his team showed up late and he got off to a slow start in the first game of session one he picked it up leading his team in scoring and assists throughout the day. The Western Carolina commit showed his ability to make plays off the bounce, get in the lane and use his craftiness and good handle to break down the defense and he showed he can score it from multiple levels, especially in the midrange area. Rob Lawson | 5’11” PG | National Christian 2022 <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Lawson-Rob-CBG.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1301673" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Lawson-Rob-CBG-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a> Lawson is a player I’ve considered one of the most underrated guards in the DMV area over the past few years, and he showed at session one that my thoughts were absolutely correct. The 5’11” lead guard did a little bit of everything running the show as he got them into sets and handled pressure, he was crafty and dynamic off the bounce allowing him to get in the lane and make plays for himself and others and he did a good job of picking his spots to score and make plays for others. He’s a tone setter on both ends and he is a winner who led his team to a 2-0 record over two very good teams in Miller and Varina. [player_tooltip player_id="999649" first="Etienne" last="Strothers"] | 6’1” PG | Menchville 2023 <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Strothers-Etienne-CBG.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1307776" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Strothers-Etienne-CBG-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a> Strothers has emerged as one of the top guards in the 757 over the past year, and he showed that in session one as he has a very good repertoire at the lead guard spot as both a scorer and a distributor. He’s grown o 6’1” which will make college coaches very intrigued moving forward, he has a mix of skill and athleticism off the bounce to make plays and he showed he can score it from multiple levels and through contact. He scored in double figures in both of their games and came up huge in their close win over Hayfield, and he’ll see a lot of college attention as he continues to develop. [player_tooltip player_id="1217452" first="Kris" last="Mickens"] | 6’3” WG | Fairfax Christian 2023 Mickens is a player who has reclassified to the 2023 class and is part of an influx of transfers to Fairfax Christian who will make them one of the top teams in the VISAA D3 classification. He didn’t put up huge numbers as they are a very balanced team, but he did lead Fairfax in scoring and he brought it on both ends making winning plays and making big plays down the stretch, including the game winning dunk against Manor. He’s very intriguing moving forward and should see division one coaches take an interest in him moving forward. [player_tooltip player_id="815587" first="George" last="Beal"] | 6’4” WF | King’s Fork 2022 [caption id="attachment_1122092" align="alignnone" width="300"]<a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/01/Beal-George-PC-crop-3456x2270-1611676082.jpeg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1122092" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/01/Beal-George-PC-crop-3456x2270-1611676082-300x197.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></a> Photo: Lancaptures[/caption] The LIU-Brooklyn commit has been one of the top wings in the 757 over the past few years, but he showed a lot of improvement in this session as he played on the ball more and showed he can make plays for himself and others with the ball in his hands. He looked great in pick-and-rolls and made great decisions and passes, he showed he can make shots from multiple levels and he was great when he got downhill and was able to use his athleticism to finish. He also brought it in their press and made plays defensively, and he should be a steal next year as he continues to get better. [player_tooltip player_id="815591" first="Wendell" last="Tomlin"] | 6’6” F | ASSIST 2022 <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Tomlin-Wendell-CBG.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1308295" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/10/Tomlin-Wendell-CBG-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a> Tomlin is one of the most underrated players in the Richmond area, and he showed that as he scored in double figures against some of the top players in the state during the session including a 20 point outing in a win over CBG Elite 2. Tomlin’s a walking mismatch who can make shots from deep, put it on the deck and get to the rim and he’s an athletic finisher and rebounder as well. He’s about as under the radar as they come and he should be a steal for whoever takes a chance on him moving forward.
