The Chargers finished 12-10 a season ago with wins over Pembroke Pines Charter (60-57) and Westminster Academy (53-51). Hallandale played a tough schedule and were much better than their mark. 2021 Jonathan Pierre Jonathan Pierre 6'4" | SF Hallandale | 2021 State FL signed with Nova Southeastern and 2023 Ashton Smith transferred to Sagemont. The Chargers also lost David Valcourt and Charles Smith Charles Smith 5'10" | PG Hallandale | 2021 State FL . All four players were high contributors and will not be easy to replace.
Key players/roster:
2023 guard Anthony Floyd Anthony Floyd 5'7" | CG Hallandale | 2023 FL
2022 wing Kareem Barnett Kareem Barnett 6'2" | CG Hallandale Highschool | 2022 State FL
2022 Issac Harney
2023 Raynaldo Narcisse
2023 Anthony Edouard
2023 Kirkland Sands
2023 Jordan Washington Jordan Washington 5'11" | PG Hallandale | 2023 FL (ranked top 15 freshman year)
Both Floyd and Barnett are transfers from Mater Lakes Academy. Therefore, I’d expect them to have continuity with one another. Floyd is about 5-foot-9 while Barnett is approximately 6-foot-4. Floyd is very dangerous with a strong handle. He plays above his size/weight and is not afraid to attack the rim. Barnett is a Ferrari in the open floor and will throw down if left unattended. He has a quick first step and will finish with authority. I continue to believe he has a chance to be a big-time player. I just think Barnett has to tighten his skill up a bit.
Kirkland Sands is a prospect I saw at Dr. Krop. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 7.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a member of the Lightning. Sands has some athleticism and scoring ability beyond 15 feet. Although, I think he has more offensive potential. Sands might be a sleeper at his new home. The same could be said for Anthony Edouard and Jordan Washington Jordan Washington 5'11" | PG Hallandale | 2023 FL .
Per Maxpreps, Narcisse averaged 3.4 points per game across 14 games. He will need to step up this season.
The 2023 class played with each other over the summer. That should help Hallandale as they replace a good senior class and a transfer in Smith. It seems to be a strength of the team heading into November. Look for them to gel quickly and perform early on. Hallandale could make some noise as they did last season.
