I’ve been looking up and down the 2024 rankings for the past couple days. I think the consensus South Florida prospects are pretty safe.

But there’s always room for improvement.

Where could they get better? Let’s have a look.

[player_tooltip player_id="1069620" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] - Miami Norland (PH. 3)

[player_tooltip player_id="1069620" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] shot 53 percent on his 2-point attempts and 50 percent overall as a sophomore. The 6-foot-7 wing will be able to find his shot more often than not because of his athleticism. While he can always improve as a shooter, I think he’s on the right track. What I will look at is his free-throw shooting. Allen went 76-of-111 (68 percent) from the line. That is one area he could tick up.

[player_tooltip player_id="1163358" first="Malik" last="Abdullahi"] - Miami Columbus (PH. 13)

[player_tooltip player_id="1163358" first="Malik" last="Abdullahi"] is very good defensively. The 6-foot-6 small forward averaged 9.9 rebounds per game and rejected nearly two shots per contest. Those are good numbers for a three. He has a lot of athleticism and a big wingspan to get this done. On offense, Abdullahi shot 45 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc. Based on his attempts, I’d like (and expect) his offensive volume to go up. This was a good team last season that had 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="818777" first="Reggie" last="Luis"] (24.0 ppg). Again, free-throw shooting. Abdullahi went 32-of-55 (58 percent) from the line. It’s a huge part of the game that often decides outcomes.

[player_tooltip player_id="1053913" first="Julian" last="Granville"] - NSU University (PH. 41)

The Montverde transfer has a ton of athleticism and good height (6’3) to play point guard. I don’t see much of a problem with him getting to the rim and finishing. I think where he can continue to develop is as a shooter. Granville is at a good program and learning under head coach Ron Oliver, who has a pro background. He should only round out with his tutelage. Look out for Granville with the Sharks over in Davie.

Jordan Kee - Archbishop McCarthy (PH. 25)

Kee has great size (6’4) to be an everyday point guard or shooting guard. I have no doubt he has the agility and handle to play in the backcourt. I just want to see Kee do it over the course of this season. He’s going to continue to get better as a mid-range and perimeter shooter. I look forward to seeing him play as he’s bounced around over the last few years. Kee could end up being the best guard in the county.
