Fall Showcase: Small School Standouts

On Saturday October 9th I attended Anthony Ray’s 23rd annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase at the Phhacility in Phx. AZ. I only attended the morning session and saw a few big schools but was truly looking for the small school standouts.   Here are some small school standouts that caught my eye: [player_tooltip player_id="1305184" first="Ja’kwan" last="Jordan"] Casa Grande (Pictured left) A tough forward who plays with a ridiculous motor to rebound the ball. He is an offensive rebound put back stud. Almost all of his points come in the paint but he is highly effective at it. To describe him, on one play he sprinted the full length of the court to block a shot. He made one jumper on the afternoon showing his potential as a shooter. [player_tooltip player_id="1305187" first="Dewayne" last="Haygood"] Casa Grande (Pictured right) A long incoming freshman who scores it inside and rebounds out of his area. He has a long wingspan to collect rebounds and scores it on put backs. He is an elbow and in scorer and has a decent touch around the rim with soft hands. [player_tooltip player_id="1305190" first="Michael" last="Keelen"] Horizon Honors A strong lead guard who can shoot it. He is quick on the ball defensively and gets downhill easily. He can change speeds and get to the rim. He makes smart reads with the ball and consistently makes the right play. He can pull-up from mid-range and plays winning basketball. [player_tooltip player_id="1305183" first="Kyle" last="Mott"] Ben Franklin A long and lean wing with a clip. He has a pure stroke from the 3pt line off the catch. He is skinny, but he scores it through contact. He uses his impressive length and quicker hands to defend in the passing lanes. [player_tooltip player_id="1305181" first="Tommy" last="Randolph"] Phoenix Christian A long defensive combo guard who loves getting downhill. He has good body control in the air and he is very graceful. He uses his thicker frame and length and he will bounce off of defenders to score it easily through contact. He can hesi and go and euro his way to the basket or float it in. He advances passes well and will drive and kick. He can catch and shoot from the 3pt line and is working on his pull-up. [player_tooltip player_id="1305182" first="Jace" last="Hagan"] Phoenix Christian A young looking soph who takes long strides to the cup. He can make a catch-3 and plays a smart floor game. He uses his length to defend on the ball and will make the extra pass. He looks like he will grow some more and be a big piece to the puzzle. Micah Carter SG 6’0 2022 Phoenix Christian A long and smooth athlete who moves well from end to end. He smartly moves without the ball to score on layups. He has the floater game and he can shoot it from 17-feet and in. His floater is probably his best current skill but he can score from all levels and he’ll bring that senior leadership to a very young team. Colin Cajthaml PF 6'1 2023 Phoenix Christian A wider post player has many moves to utilize and will counter off of them. He is under the rim but highly effective and plays the game from the neck up. He has a consistent stroke to the 3pt line and plays a physical brand of ball inside the paint.
