With 18 teams on three courts including 12 high school teams, 3 post grad teams and 3 showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at part three of the many 2022 standouts at session one. There will be two more sessions as well on October 10 and October 24 at U-Turn.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
Kendon Peebles Kendon Peebles 6'4" | SF Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | CBG Elite 2 (Catholic)
Peebles is the perfect type of player for a showcase team, as he plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor and he showed a lot of what he’s improved in as well. The athletic and strong wing brought it on both ends of the floor, he showed improvement in his ability to make shots from deep off the catch and he attacked the rim hard and finished well through contact.
Geroges Archer | 6’4” WF | CBG Elite 2 (Princess Anne)
Archer is another good sized wing that played well throughout the day in the showcase games, and while his athleticism was on display he also showed his improvement in scoring from multiple levels. He was great in straight line drives and finishing through contact, he shot it well in spurts from deep which shows improvement in where he needs to and he has tons of potential moving forward in the next few years.
Keyontae Lewis Keyontae Lewis 6'7" | PF LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’8” C | CBG Elite 1 (LC Bird)
Lewis looked really good, and I mean really good, on Sunday as he has dropped a lot of weight and while he’s still a big guy at about 290 pounds he moved very well and did a good job using his size to finish in the paint. He ran the floor hard and was quick on the help side block defensively, he finished well through traffic and had a span where he scored in the paint on four straight possessions and he looked light on his feet and got off of them quickly.
Davien Banks Davien Banks 6'2" | SG LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’2” WG | CBG Elite 1 (LC Bird)
Banks has quietly been the glue guy for Bird over the past few years and he showed that same type of willingness to do whatever helps his team even on a showcase team. The 6’2” guard usually plays off the ball but he helped handle without a true point guard on the floor, he knocked down shots off the catch consistently and he competed and played hard and the right way on both ends.
James Patterson James Patterson 6'5" | SG Carmel School | 2022 State VA | 6’5” WF | CBG Elite 1 (Church Hill Academy)
Patterson is the type of player who has thrived on showcase teams in the CBG events over the past year, and he did so again as he brought a lot of energy and showed his natural ability on both ends of the floor. He has good size and is an explosive athlete where he finishes at the rim regularly, he continues to improve in his ability to make shots consistently from deep and he brought energy with his high motor consistently.
Jaden Daughtry | 6’5” WF | ASSIST
Daughtry is another guy who always seems to play well on a showcase style with his physical and versatile play, and he was fantastic for ASSIST in their two wins over the CBG Elite teams. He’s so good in these settings because he’s able to handle it in transition and use his physical frame to finish at the rim, he plays with a solid motor and he stays in attack mode looking for his shot and looking to get to the free throw line.
Wendell Tomlin Wendell Tomlin 6'6" | PF Church Hill Academy | 2022 State VA | 6’6” PF | ASSIST
Tomlin is a guy I have said time and time again is possibly the most underrated player in Richmond, and the Church Hill Academy forward was fantastic with his mismatch ability and the way he produces in a number of ways. At 6’6” he’s big and athletic enough to play in the paint but he also has good ball skills on the perimeter, he made shots consistently and put up big numbers in both of his games.
