Prep Hoops Preseason All-Orlando First Team (Smaller Schools)
In this article:
It’s October and fall leagues are in full swing, players and coaches are getting ready for the regular season working hard in practice. With opening day just weeks away it’s time to make the Prep Hoops preseason All-Orlando teams. I broke it down into two categories large schools (5-7A) and small schools (1-4A). This article will highlight the Small school MVP and First team.
Small School MVP: SF Brice Sensabaugh Brice Sensabaugh 6'6" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #104 Nation FL 6-6 Lake Highland Prep
Sensabaugh sat out last season with a knee injury, but if his play this summer is any indication of what is to come: watch out! The wing burst onto the national scene this summer leading Each 1 Teach 1 in scoring. His game is a very unique mix of power and finesse and he could very well lead Orlando in scoring this season. He is a master of the step back, shoots the three at a high clip, and can over power defenders on his way to the basket for a dunk. Sensabaugh is a very well schooled player who makes intelligent decisions with the ball in his hands, and also knows how to play off the ball. Ohio State got a good one !
1st Team All Orlando Small Schools
G/F Ven Allen Lubin 6-8 Orlando Christian Prep
With Ven Allen Lubin in the starting lineup OCP has won 79 games with only eight losses and hung two state championship banners. As a junior he averaged 12 PPG and 7 RPG on an undefeated state championship team. His versatility is what makes him so special with his ability to play and defend several positions. Recruiting wise he is in the process of choosing between a final seven consisting of Notre Dame, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Alabama. Orlando Christian is again the heavy favorite to win the class 2A state championship.
SG AJ Brown AJ Brown 6'4" | CG Orlando Christian Prep | 2022 State #190 Nation FL 6-4 Orlando Christian Prep
Teaming with Ven Allen Lubin on the varsity team since freshmen year, Brown also played a large part in those 79 wins and two state championships. A long athletic wing, Brown led the team in scoring last season at 14.4 PPG delivering high scoring performances when his team needed him the most. This past September Brown decided to end his college recruitment with a commitment to Ohio University.
G/F Jayden Williams Jayden Williams 6'6" | SG Windermere Prep | 2022 State FL 6-6 Windermere Prep
With his brother Zavien Williams Zavien Williams 6'0" | CG Windermere Prep | 2021 State FL (Rhodes College) and 7 Foot standout Elijah Hulsewe Elijah Hulsewe 6'10" | C Windermere Prep | 2021 State FL (Prep School) graduated, a lot of production can be expected out of Williams. He averaged 16 PPG as a junior shooting and incredible 49% from behind the 3-point line and those numbers are likely to increase. Known for his prowess as a long range shooter, this summer and fall the Windermere Prep wing has shown a much improved game off the dribble. This past weekend he committed to Ivy league school Dartmouth College where I see him making an impact from day one.
PG Javon Bennett Javon Bennett 5'11" | CG Trinity Prep | 2022 State FL 5-8 Trinity Prep (2022)
Bennett is a walking bucket. He is going to go for 30 points several times throughout this next season and will have a lot more opportunity to do so with Laziz Talipov Laziz Talipov 6'0" | CG Trinity Prep | 2021 State FL now at George Washington. The point guard averaged 22.4 PPG as a junior leading Trinity Prep to the class 3A state quarterfinal. He is in a class of his own in terms of quickness, and he can score from anywhere on the court. Stetson, Jacksonville, and Merrimack have all offered the Bennett a scholarship.
G Eduardo Placer Eduardo Placer 6'1" | CG Windermere Prep | 2023 State FL 6-5 Windermere Prep (2023)
Transferring in from The Masters Academy, Placer adds some much welcomed scoring to Windermere Prep’s starting line up. He has great size at 6-5 and can play all three positions on the perimeter. As a sophomore he registered a handful of games with over 30 points including a 41 point outbreak against Lyman. He shoots the three at a high clip, and has a skilled in between game with the size and footwork to post up smaller guards. Jayden Williams Jayden Williams 6'6" | SG Windermere Prep | 2022 State FL and Placer together will form one of the best tandems not only in Orlando, but the entire state.
