I saw him up close and personal plenty of times over grassroots season. Let me tell you this, you don’t improve the way he did without being easily coached. He listened to Coach Strong about what his team needed from him and he delivered.

really saw his game grow and the exposure follow with the Michigan Cagers over the spring and the summer. One area that I noticed rapid improvement in from spring to fall was his overall leadership. He sets the tone for his team to follow on the defensive end and he’s stepped up as a leader this high school season. A program at the next level may just get a steal with this young man.

– Received an offer from Aquinas College.
Jones’ game can and will translate to the next level. He’s a lockdown perimeter defender that can be matched up against the best.

Jones has a deserved reputation as a lockdown defender. Let’s face it, he’s probably one of the top perimeter defenders in the state. In this game however, it was his offensive capabilities that stood out. Jones moved the ball well and did a nice job using both the dribble and the pass to break pressure. He was really impressive taking the ball off the bounce. Jones was quick with the ball and able to wiggle through traffic. This allowed him to drive and dish, where he showed good vision and passing abilities.

Jones is going to make a college coach very happy someday. I have said in the past, that his defense was so impactful that I’d offer him even if he averaged 0 points a game. The young man can get up in the face of his assignment and never give them the space they need or want. Jones can pressure a ball handler, either forcing the ball out of the hands of a primary ball handler or scorer or creating turnovers. He has great defensive anticipation and footwork and you can see that his teammates like and respect the grind that he puts in on that side of the floor. Even better though is that Jones is a 2 way player. He can definitely get it done on offense as well. Jones is a speedy guard that can play in transition. He can also slash to the rim and attack the basket. He’s willing to play whatever role his team needs if it means picking up a W. I really think that there’s a ton of upside to this young man’s game. College coaches, if you want an athletic perimeter defender that can attack on the offensive end as well, Jones is definitely worth a look.

Jones’ defense wowed me on the Prep Hoops Circuit this summer. Coach Strong seemed to know where to put him to get the most out of his D. Quite simply, Jones won games this grassroots season with his defense. He has excellent defensive footwork and quickness.
